SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 394,064, dated December 4, 1888.

Application filed July 25, 1887. Serial No. 245,241. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, HARRY H. ENGELMAN and J OHN' II. KIsER, citizens of the United States, residing at Defiance, in the county of Defiance and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Brooms, &c., of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders for brooms, mops, &c.; and the invention consists in the peculiar combination and operation of a bifurcated frame or bracket and a hinged bail, whereby a broom or mop may be suspended by means of the device, all as more fully hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings which accompany this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of our device. Fig. 2 is a side view showing it in operation.

Our device consists of a stationary frame or bracket, A, and a hinged bail, B.

The bracket A is preferably made of a single piece of wire in the form of a loop, with eyes c (I in the ends of the loop and return bends I) 1) near the middle. From the base (1 toward the bends I) the loop is more orless diverging. The bail I3 is also formed of one piece of wire and is provided with the bend e and the eyes or hooks f, by means of which it is hinged into the eyes c, between the legs of the loop.

In practice, the device being secured to a wall at a suitable height from the floor by means of nails or screws g, the end of the broom or other handle is inserted into the bracket A between the bends l) of the loop and then the bail is clapped over it, as shown, when it will be found that by the combined clamping action of the bail and loop the broom is held suspended in position, and when required may be released by a simple pull best applied in a forward and downward direction.

\Vhile we have described and shown the device as beingformed of wire, we do not intend to con fine ourselves to such construction alone, although we deem it most preferable on account of cheapness; but it is obvious that the bracket A may be formed by casting as well, the essential features being that itis vertically bifurcated or forked to receive the handle of the broom, such bifurcation converging slightly toward the base of the bracket to enable it to grasp the sides of the broom or other handle. The bail B is also preferably made with slig'htly-diverging' legs to have a clamping action on the broom-handle in opposite direction to the loop or bracket A..

\Vhat we claim as our invention is As a new article of manufactpre, a holder for brooms and like articles, consisting of the bracket A, made of wire in the form of a bent loop and provided with the eyes 0 (Z, and the hinged bail B, all arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose described.
