0.85 J. FALKBNBERG 8v M. JONES.-
SHIRT. I
No. 393,548. Patented. Nov. 27, 1888.
ilNiTnn STATES PATENT Ormes.
CHARLES FALK 'ENRE1 G, JACOB FALKENlllCllf-I, ANT) MORRIS JONES, OF
NEW' YORK., N. Y.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 393,548, dated November 27, 1888.
Application iiled July 24, ISES. Serial No. EERST?.
To all whom, muy concern:
Be it known that we,GnAn,i.1:sFn'hnnivixlano, .Moon lihirniinnrzno. and Momes Jonas, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shirt, of which the following is a l'ull, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates to woolen shirts having attached collars which lnay be turned in and a linen collar worn; and the object of the invention is such construction of the collarband and attached collar that when the collar is turned in all uncomfortable fullness at the neck is avoided.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part ol' this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view oi a shirt inade in accordance with our invention, the collar being shown upon the outside. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the collar turned in, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view showing the construction of the ncckband and collar.
The body A ofthe shirt may be of the usual or of any approved construction. The collar B is adapted to be worn upon the outside, as shown in Fig. l, or turned in, as shown in Fig. 2, and a linen collar attached to the co1- lar-band C. The lower edge of the collar B is stitched to the band C below the upper edge of the band, so that a welt, a, is formed above the collar when the same'is turned in. An inner thin strip of material, E, unites the upper edge of the body A to the lower edge of (No model.)
the collar B. rlhe ncekband is folded in atits upper edge to forni the said welt a, as shown at c. lt is also'folded in at its lower edge, as shown at c', a space, c, being left between the edges of the band, so that when the collar is turned in, as .in Fig. 2, the lower edge of the collar, by the elasticity ol' the fabric, drops into this space, and thus obviates thc thickness which would otherwise be produced.
The collar l, outer neckband, (l, and inner band, 1D, are stitched together by a single seam, e, and the outer neck band and inner band are stitched to the body A of the shirt by a single seam, e.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of mzuiul'aeture, a shirt having an outer ueeliband, C, turned in at its upper and lower edges, said edges being' separated frein each other to forni the space c?, and the lower edge secured to the body of the shirt, in combination with the collar B, secured to the outer neekband, C, and the inner neckband, E, covering-space c, the edges of the said band E being stitched to the body of the shirt and to the lower edge of the collar B and tothe turned-in upper edge of the outer neckband, C, substantially as described.
