ALUMINUM HOLDING FURNACE DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to an aluminum holding furnace.
Objects of the invention are to provide an aluminum holding furnace of simple structure which is charged with facility and convenience, installed with facility and convenience, simple and convenient to operate, and functions efficiently, effectively and reliably to hold aluminum.
In order that the invention may be readily carried into effect, it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a sectional side view of an embodiment of the aluminum holding furnace of the invention with the cover slightly removed therefrom; and
FIG. 2 is a sectional top view, taken along the lines 11-11 of FIG. 1.
In the FIGS., the same components are identified by the same reference numerals.
The aluminum holding furnace of the invention comprises a steel housing 1. A lining of asbestos 2 is provided on the steel in the housing 1. Heat insulating bricks 3 are provided on the asbestos 2 in the housing 1.
The housing 1 has a front 4 and a chute-type part 5 extending at an angle downward into the housing from the front.
The steel housing 1 has a top 6 and an opening 7 at the top (FIG. 1). A burner device heats the furnace. The burner device comprises a removable top cover 8 removably affixed to the housing and covering the opening 7 at the top thereof. As shown in FIG. 1, the
top cover 8 has burner holes 9, l0, and so on, formed therethrough. The burner holes 9, 10, and so on, flare outward as they progress toward the inside from the outside.
An asbestos gasket 11 (FIG. 1) is provided between the top cover 8 and the housing 1 for making the furnace pressure-tight.
Suitable burners, a burner control system and suitable temperature controls, and the like, of any suitable known type, are provided for the furnace, although they are not shown in the FIGS.
While the invention has been described by means of a specific example and in a specific embodiment, I do not wish to be limited thereto, for obvious modifications will occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. An aluminum holding furnace, comprising a steel housing having a front and a chute-type part extending at an angle downward into the housing from the front, and a top and an opening at the top; an asbestos lining on the steel in the housing;
heat insulating bricks lining the asbestos in the housburner means for heating the fumace, said burner means comprising a removable top cover for the furnace removably affixed to the housing and covering the opening at the top thereof, the top cover having burner holes formed therethrough flaring outward as they progress toward the inside from the outside; and
an asbestos gasket between the top cover and the housing for making the furnace pressure-tight. =l
Claims (1)
1. AN ALUMINUM HOLDING FURNACE, COMPRISING A STEEL HOUSING HAVING A FRONT AND A CHUTE-TYPE PART EXTENDING AT AN ANGLE DOWNWARD INTO THE HOUSING FROM THE FRONT, AND A TOP AND AN OPENING AT THE TOP; AN ASBESTOS LINING ON THE STEEL IN THE HOUSING; HEAT INSULATING BRICKS LINING THE ABSESTOS IN THE HOUSING; BURNER MEANS FOR HEATING THE FURNACE, SAID BURNER MEANS COMPRISING A REMOVABLE TOP COVER FOR THE SURFACE REMOVABLY AFFIXED TO THE HOUSING AND COVERING THE OPENING AT THE TOP THEREOF, THE TOP COVER HAVING BURNER HOLES FORMED THERETHROUGH FLARING OUTWARD AS THEY PROGRESS TOWARD THE INSIDE FROM THE OUTSIDE; AND AN ASBESTOS GASKET BETWEEN THE TOP COVER AND THE HOUSING FOR MAKING THE FURNACE PRESSURE-TIGHT.
