SUSPENDER ATTACHMENT.
No.` 389,072. Patented Sept, 4. i888.
IJVVENTOR WITNESSES,
@l2/W73 7d UNITED STATES Partnr Ormes..
MYER. GORDON, OF THOMASVILLE, GEORGIA, ASSIGNOR TO SOLOMON LITTENBERG, OF SAME PLACE.
SUSPENDER ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 389,072l dated September 4, 1888.
Scria No. 272,593.
(No model.)
To all whom, it may concern,.-
Beit known that 1, MYER GORDON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Thomas ville, in the county of Thomas and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Buckles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and gnres of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to fasteners for the back ends of snspenderstraps, and for conmeeting the suspender -loops with the said straps.
The improvement consists of the peculiar construction and combination of the parts, which hereinafter will he more fully described and claimed, and shown in the drawings, in which- Figure l is a front View of the lower ends of a pair of suspender-straps and the upper ends of the suspender-loops, showing my fastener connecting them together; Fig. 2,a vertical section on the line YY ofFig .1, Fig. 3, a plan view ofthe blank of one part ofthe strapfastener; Fig. 4, a perspective view of the other part ofthe strapfastener; Fig. 5,a perspective view of the loop-fastener, and Fig. 6 a plan view of the blank from which the loop-fastener is formed.
rlhe strap-fastener is composed of the parts or halves l and 2, which are hinged together at their upper ends to the tie-bars 3 3, and are provided at their lower ends with hooks 4 and 5. The hook 4 at the lower end of the half or blank 1 is considerably shorter than the hook 5 at the end of the half or blank 2. The link 6 is held in the hook 5, and the two halves l and 2 are held together hy the hook tting over the hooked end 5. The edges and the upper ends of the halves are serrated and bent up at right angles to lit and hold the straps securely.
The loopi'astener is composed of the blank 7, which has its middle portion contracted and bent to embrace the lower end of the link 6, which connects the loop and the strap fasteners. The edges of the blank are serrated and bent up at right angles to grip the loopstraps securely. The ends of the loop-fastener are clamped on the loopstraps by sliding the band 8 down on the said fastener, the band being held from accidental displacement by fitting in the grooves'or depressions 9, formed in the Said blank.
In practice the straps are passed between the tie-bars 3 3 and the halves l and 2, which halves are previously opened, and the halves are closed and clamp the straps between them, the halves being held together by the hook 4, fitting over the hook 5.
The loop is secured in the loop-fastener as follows: Draw back the band 8,when thehalves 10 10 will open. The loop is now placed between the halves l0 and 10, and the band 8 drawn forward. This operation presses the halves close on the loop-straps and holds them together.
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. The herein-described fastener for the back ends of Suspenders and the loop-straps cornposed of the strap-fastener, which consists of two halves having their upper ends connected together by the bars 3 3 and their lower ends held together by having the end of one half embracing the end ofthe other half, the loopstrap fastener consisting of two parts conneeted together at one end and having eorresponding grooves or depressions to receive the band, which is adapted to slide on the parts, and the link connecting the two fasteners, substantially as set forth.
2. The herein-described fastener for suspenders, composed of the halves l and 2 and the bars 3 3,having the halves hinged thereto, one of the halves having a hook, as 4:, at its lower end, which hook is adapted to spring around the end of the other half and hold the lower ends of the fastener together', snbstantially as described, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MYER GQRDON.
