IMPROVED HINGE FOR BLINDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 38,876, dated June 16, 1863.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. BARNES, of Kingston, in the county of Ulster and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new and useful Improvement in Hinges for Blinds, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the said invention, refere1 03 being had to the annexed drawings, makor shutter open.
I am aware that hinges have heretofore been made for holding blinds and shutters open. My invention relates to the peculiar device for effecting this operation, and said device is simple, cheap, easily made, reliable, and effective in use.
In the drawings, a is the fixed leaf of the hinge to be screwed upon the window-casing. This leaf has the projection 11, that carries the hinge-pin 0.
dis theleaf of the hinge that is to be screwed to the shutter or blind, and c is the eye thereof that takes the pin 0. These parts are to be of any desired size or shape, and adapted to the peculiar character of blind or windowcasing.
f is a projection on one side of the eye e, and g is a blocking-piece hinged at h to the leafa. When the blind or shutter is open, this blocking-piece g is to be turned, so that the end thereof takes the projection f, which stiffens the joint of the hinge and prevents the blind blowing or swinging to until said blocking-piece is removed. This blockingpiece can be turned back out of the way when the blind is shut, as seen in Fig. 3.

The swinging blocking piece 9, hinged to the leaf a of the hinge, in combination with v the projection f on the leaf 6?, for the purposes and as specified.
