,To all whom it may concern:
vBe it known that LG. L. W11sIL,of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Washing-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
the fabric and that wear andtear of thehands` the ordinary corrugated wash-boards. In order to enable'others to make' and use my construction and operation.-
0n reference to the accompanyingdrawings, which forma part of this specification', Figure lis a sectional elevationof my improved! washing-machine, and- Fig. 2*-:is a front v iew.
The frame of the washing-'machine 'iscomf posed of the twoside pieces, A and Ath? connectcd together atthelo'yver end by thecross bir a and at the upper end by the-b9f xB-,. which forms a receptacle for thetsoap, a post,` G, being secured-to each of 'the side pieces, A aid A', and the two posts being connected together at the top by the cross-bar d.l Inthe opposite side pieces, A and A,` tu'ri1 the jour'l in actual contact, each rollerhaving a tinted or' corrugated surface. The journals-.of a iiuted or corrugated roller, fH', 'turn in the the two side' pieces, I and Il, which-fare eo'nl nected together by across-.bag Ffthe .upper t end of each'side piece terminating in a stem, f, and each steam fitting loosely, so as to slide present instance the side pieces, A and A',-
which carry the rollers G G, arepf the curved form represented in thedrawings, each piece terminating at the lower end in a projection, 1h, and the two projections restingon the bottom of the wash-tub, which is'represented by the dotted lines wx, one corner of thebox B (which,
as before remarked, serves to connectthe opposite side pieces, Aand A', together) forming a shoulder for resting the upper end of the frame upon the edge of the tub.-
In usingthe apparatus the operator leans v over the edge'of the wash-.tub and -grasps the cross-bar E of the movable frame with one, hand, raisesthefreme, andwiththeother hand de'positsthe clotheson the tinted rollers G' G,. land then depresses-the frame, .so'that the. iutedgroller H rests on 'the clothes; After 'thisthe operatorimparts a vibrating moticn lto the movable frame and at .the same time t applies such adownward pressure tothe same as' 'may be. deemeesnicienngmee @temes are 'thus submitted tothe desired vpressure and are att-the same time moved to' a limitedexjtent-backward andibrward, the combinediafj f tion of. the-tinted roller .H andv iuted' rollers` G G, havin g the ,desired effect ofkneadillg the claim, broadly, .the use of a bed. of tinted roth i ers G, .in combination Wit-ha vibrating-rellegt'.
