UNITED STATES PATENT @rrrcn.
SAMUEL B. JUNGKURTH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
HOT-Al R FLU E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 388,364, dated August 21,1888.
Application filed July 21, 1887.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. J UNGKURTH, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county ofPhiladelphia, State ofPennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hot-Air Flues, which Improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of novel means for connecting lengths or sections of hot-air dues for a furnace or heater, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure 1 reprcsentsa side elevation of a hotair flue embodying myinvention, also showing a register-box attachment and a branch-flue opening. Fig. 2 represents a top or plan view showing branch flues in dotted lines connected with the main flue. Figs. 3 and 4 represent forms of plates for connecting the lengths of the main flue.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A B represent the side pieces ofwhich a hot-airflue is formed.
0 represents a plate for connecting adjacent lengths or sections of dues, the same consisting of a piece of metal having its center cut out, the edges of the opening being turned up, producing walls which are adapted to enter one end of a fine, and are bolted or riveted to the same, as at b, it being noticed that the plate is substantially flat throughout its length and projecting beyond the diameter of the flue.
In the flange or rim D of the plate are openings c 0, whereby, when the plates of adjacent lengths are placed together, as shown in Fig.
Serial No. 244,835. (No model.)
1, bolts or rivets I) are passed through said openings, whereby the plates are connected and the lengths or sections of flue firmly se cured to each other, it being seen that the means employed obviate the use of solder for securing said lengths or sections.
A rcgistenbox may be aifixcd to the flue at any desired place by making an openi ng therein and bolting or riveting the flange or rim D to the flue as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, it being seen that the plate 0 may be rectangular, circular, or other shape, so as to accord with the contour of the fine in crosssectiou.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A connecting device for adjacent sections of a hot-air flue, consisting of two plates each having an opening in its center, the walls whereof are turned up and adapted to enter the end of one of the sections and secured thereto by bolts or rivets, the flange or rim of the plate being substantially flat throughout its length and projecting beyond the diameter of the section, as stated.
2. A device of the character named consisting of a plate with turned-up inner portions adapted to be secured to one of the sections of a flue, and having a flange or rim substantially fiat throughout its length, with openings. whereby it is adapted to be secured to an attachment of said flue, as stated.
