Apr. 8, 1975 Primary Examiner-George J. Marlo Assistant E.\'aminerMarvin Siskind [57] ABSTRACT A game including a tiered structure comprising plural rectangular layers individually comprising respective front and back faces, said layers being disposed one atop another with their respective back faces substantially aligned with each other. the bottom one of said layers having a first depth dimension between said front and back faces thereof and the uppermost one of said layers having a second depth dimension between said front and back faces thereof, said depth dimension significantly exceeding said second depth dimension and the respective depth dimension of other said layers disposed between said uppermost and bottommost layers being progressively smaller from said bottommost layer toward said uppermost layer so as to form a step-like structure, said layers having progressively smaller widths from said bottommost layer toward the two topmost said layers and said device further comprising a carrying case comprising at least a cover member adapted to receive said tiered structure and toss disc pieces to throw at said tiered structure.
7 Claims, 6 Drawing Figures TIERED TARGET, DISC-SHAPED PROJECTILES AND CARRYING CASE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a disc throwing game as disclosed in Canadian Industrial Design for Game Pedestal, registered by the present applicant Nov. 3, I969, in Register of Industrial Designs No. 254. Folio 31840.
The game of the present invention affords a means for one or a large number of players to exercise their skill and provides a portable, compact form of recreation.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES FIG. I is an isometric view of the tiered structure portion of the present game.
FIGS. 2 and 3 are, respectively, top and front eleva tion views of the tiered structure.
FIG. 4 is an isometric view of the tiered structure in its carrying case.
FIGS. 5 and 6 are isometric views of, respectively, the closed carrying case and the open carrying case containing the tiered structure.
PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The game It FIG. 4) comprises a tiered structure 12 (FIGS. 1 to 3) that comprises stacked discrete plural tiers or layers 14 whose back faces 16 to 24 in FIG. 2 are substantially aligned with each other to form a substantially planar surface and that comprise further, front and side faces. The depth dimensions (i.e., the respective distances between the back faces 16 to 24 and the front faces 26 to 34 of the layers 14) progressively decrease in going from the bottommost layer 140 to the uppermost layer 1412, that for layer 14a significantly exceeding that for the uppermost layer 14!). The width dimensions ie, the dimension between the side faces 40 to 48 and 50 to 58 ofthe respective layers) ofthe layers l4 decrease from the bottommost layer 14a to the two topmost layers 14b and 140 with the width dimension of the two uppermost layers 14b and 140 being substantially equal but significantly smaller than that for the bottommost layer 14a, so as to form a step-like struc ture having front and side steps. The layers are of rectangular outline, the major faces (i.e., the top and bottom faces) thereof being mutually parallel preferably, it being further preferred that the front and back faces and the side faces of the respective layers 14 be substantially parallel.
Where it is desired, the layers 14 can form an integral structure and/or a first one ofthe layers e.g.. 14c) can be significantly thinner than another layer (cg, 1411). It is preferred that the steps (either the front steps or the side steps or both) be progressively narrower in going from the bottom of the structure 12 to the top and/or that here be disposed at the various steps indicate denoting a certain number of points that increase in value from the bottommost layer to the uppermost layer. thus reflecting the increasing difficulty in a tossed disc's landing on the upper layers than the lower layers. this being attributable to the greater width of the lower layers than the higher layers.
According to a further embodiment. the invention further comprises a receptacle member 60 (FIGS. 4 to 6) comprising a bottom and side walls to define 21 vol ume within which the bottommost layer 1401 of the tiered structure 12 is received, it being further pre ferred that there be included also a cover member 62 that has a top and side walls and is hingedly connected to the receptacle member 60 to define therewith a closed space within which the tiered structure 12 can be disposed. There can also be provided means (cg, snaps 64 or other suitable devices) for holding the cover and receptacle members together in a closed position and a handle 66 for carrying the game about.
In using the game, the discs 68 (FIG. 2) are tossed toward the tiered structure 12, it being the goal to have the discs 68 land on the steps( layers) having the higher point values so as to score the greatest total number of points.
Having herein described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A game including a tiered structure comprising plural stacked rectangular layers individually comprising respective top, side, front and back faces, said layers being disposed one atop another with their respective back faces substantially aligned with each other to form a substantially plane surface, the bottommost one of said layers having a first depth dimension between said front and back faces thereof and the uppermost one of said layers having a second depth dimension between said front and back faces thereof, said first depth dimension significantly exceeding said second depth dimension and the respective depth dimensions of others of said layers disposed between said uppermost and bottommost layers being progressively smaller from said bottommost layer toward said uppermost layer so as to form a plurality of front steps, said bottommost layer having a first width dimension between said side faces thereof and the two uppermost ones of said layers each having a second width dimension between their respective side faces. said first width dimension significantly exceeding said second width dimension and the other ones of said layers intermediate said bottommost layer and said two uppermost layers having progessively smaller respective width dimensions from said bottommost layer toward said two topmost said layers so as to form steps at the sides of such structure, said device further comprising at least a receptacle member receiving said tiered structure and toss disc pieces to throw at said tiered structure.
2. A game as in claim I, wherein a first one of said layers has a thickness exceeding a second one of said layers.
3. A game in claim 2, wherein said second one of said layers is the layer immediately below said uppermost layer and said first one of said layers is said uppermost layer.
4. A game as in claim 1., wherein said receptacle fur ther comprises a cover member for receiving said upper portions of the tiered structure said receptacle member and said cover member being hingedly connectcd together so as to be mateable to define a closed space, said tiered structure being disposed in said space.
5. A game as in claim 1, wherein each one ofsaid layers comprises indicia donoting a certain number of points, said points increasing in value from said bottommost layer to said uppermost layer.
6. A game as in claim 1, wherein said front steps are progressively narrower in going from said bottommost layer to said topmost layer.
7. A game as in claim 1, wherein said side steps are progessively narrower in going from said bottommost layer to said two topmost layers.
