The box includes a token container having 120 tokens of various denominations, such as ten, five, and one. Two dies are also included in the box, together with a deck of cards numbered 1-12 of which there are four each making a total of 48 cards. The inner horizontal surface of the box is lined with a sound absorbent material such as felt. The bottom half of the box has two tabs attached to its opposed vertical sides. These tabs provide a lock for keeping the top half of the box in the same plane as the bottom half, once the box has been unfolded. The game is played after giving each player a predetermined number of tokens.
Each player, in starting the game, will roll the dice in the game box, with the player having the highest number starting the game. After he has finished his play, the next player to his left makes his play. The first player shuffles the numbered cards (face down), and then deals out six cards to each player. Each player will then place his six cards face up in numerical order, with the first player proceeding to cast the dice.
According to the rules of the game, only one number of each player's numbers, equalling the total of the throw, may be turned over. In the case of doubles showing on a throw of the dice, the total of the throw can be used or the number of one die shown can be played. Play of the game continues until a player succeeds in having all numbered cards face down across the board; that player is declared the winner of that round of play. The remaining players then total their remaining numbered cards and pay this amount in token to the winner. This constitutes one round of play. Next, the numbered cards and dice are then given to the second player and a new round of the game is started. The player ending up with all the tokens is the official winner, with any player running out of tokens during the course of play, being automatically eliminated.
5 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures PATENTED MR 2 8 I972 SHEET 1 BF 2 INVENTOR MERRICK C. STECKER FIG. 2
avw m gm PATENTEDMAR28 1912 SHEET 2 [IF 2 DICE, CARI) AND TOKEN BOX CONVERTIBLE TO A DICE Fl-[ROWING AREA This invention relates generally to game apparatus, and more particularly to a novel game which can be played by a plurality of players utilizing a combination of a board in the form of a box, a deck of cards, a pair of dice, and a plurality of tokens.
It is an object of this invention to provide a novel game apparatus which is easy to play and of simple construction.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a novel game which is original, unique, and constructive and wherein the players of the game are required to combine skill and chance in playing the game.
And even another object of the invention is to provide a container for the game, which can be utilized to store the playing pieces of the game when they are not being utilized, and which can be used as the game board when the game is being played.
Other objects and attendant advantages of this invention will become more readily apparent and understood from the following detailed specification and accompanying sheets of drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing all components of the novel game and incorporating features thereof;
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the game box shown in an unfolded position from the position shown in FIG. 1 and before the tabs are positioned in place;
FIG. 3 is a view similar to that of FIG. 2 with the tabs positioned in place;
FIG. 4 is a plan view of the game laid out ready for play; and
FIG. 5 is a plan view of the game in session after several rolls of the dice.
Referring now to FIGS. 1, 2, and 3 of the drawings, there is shown a new and novel game which consists of substantially a rectangular shaped box 12 which subsequently assembles into a die throwing area consisting of the bottom of the box 12 when completely unfolded as best illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5.
When the game box 12 is opened, the bottom half of the box has attached to its opposed vertical sides, two tabs 14-14. These tabs 14-14 provide a lock for keeping the top half of the box 12 in the same plane as the bottom, once the box 12 has been unfolded as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, to give the die throwing area.
The box 12 includes a token container 18 having therein tokens 20 of one, five and ten unit denomination. There is provided a total of 120 point tokens, consisting of 40 of ten unit denomination, 40 of five unit denomination, and 40 of one unit denomination.
A deck 22 of 48 numbered cards 24, and a pair of dice 26, are included in the box 12. The deck 22 of 48 numbered cards 24 consists of four sets of cards numbered one to 12. Box 12 has its inner horizontal surface lined with a sound absorbing felt pad 16 as best shown in FIGS. 1 to 3.
In actual use of the game 10, the game box 12 is opened, and the tabs l414 on each side of the box are fixed in place to give continuous sides to the box 12 as shown best in FIGS. 3, 4, and 5.
There are normally four players required to properly play the game 10, although a lesser number can play like in any conventional game. Each player is given 10 one point denomination tokens 20, 10 five point denomination tokens 20, and 10 ten point denomination tokens 20, or a total of tokens 20 for each player.
In order to start the game 10, each player will roll the dice 26 in the game box 12 as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, with the player having the highest number starting the game 10. After the player with the highest number on the dice 26 finishes his play, the turn of play of the dice passes to the player at his left.
Next, the first player with the highest dice score then shuffles the numbered cards 24 from the deck 22 (face down), and then hands out six cards to each player. Each player will then place the six cards 24 face up in numberical order as shown in FIG. 4. The first player will then proceed to cast the dice 26.
It is to be noted at the rules of the game require that only one number of each player's numbers, which would equal the total of the throw, may be turned over.
In the event there is doubles showing on a throw of the dice 26, the total of the throw of the dice 26 can be used, or alternatively the number of one die 26 shown thereon can be played.
For example, if a player were to roll a four and a four on the dice 26, the total of the dice 26 is eight. Thus, each player with the number eight on the cards 24 is allowed to turn over just one number eight card 24. Also, it is to be noted, that players with cards 24 having fours thereon may turn over one number four card 24.
Thus, it is to be noted that the play continues until a player succeeds in having all numbered cards 24 face down across the board, with the progress of the game being indicated generally in FIG. 5. The player first having all his numbered cards face down across the board, is declared the winner of this phase or one play of the game 10. The other players then total their remaining numbered cards 24 and each pays his total amount in tokens 20 to the winner. As indicated, this constitutes one play or one phase of game 10.
The numbered cards 24 and the dice 26 are then given to the second player, and a new round of play is started. According to the rules of the game 10, any player running out of tokens 20 during the course or progress of the game is automatically eliminated.
Ifduring the course of playing the game 10, the number one on the dice 26 can only be made when a double one is thrown. Further, if in the course of the game, there is a tie by any number of players, there will be a roll off of the dice 26 by the players, with the player having the highest number on the dice 26 being declared the winner.
When a player is declared the winner of a game 10, the other players with the last number thrown are allowed to turn that number over before they total points for tokens 20 which are due the winner.
Obviously, many modifications and variations of the present invention are possible in light of the above teachings. It is, therefore, to be understood that within the scope of the appended claims the invention may be protected otherwise than as specifically described.
