Abstract

An improved hair roller for rendering hair both straightened and curled simultaneously. By this device the ends of the hair can be made as curly as desired while the main body of the hair can be made as straight as desired. The roller comprises an inside roller of minor diameter and an outside roller of major diameter, the inside roller being removably forceably fittable into the outside roller. The present device also speeds up the drying time when employed after shampooing.

An lmproved hair roller for rendering hair both straightened and curled simultaneously. By this device U-S- CI. the ends of the hair can be made as curly as desired [51] InLCI A45d 2/02 while the main body f the hair can be made as Fleld of Search 132/39, 42, 9, 41, straight as desired. The roller comprises an inside rol- 132/34 R ler of minor diameter and an outside roller of major diameter, the inside roller being removably forceably References Cited fittable into the outside roller. The present device also UNITED STATES PATENTS speeds up the drying time when employed after sham- 3,050,069 8/1962 Brown 132 39 P 3,376,875 4/1968 Rosan 132/34 R 3,400,724 9/1968 Scott 132/39 1 Clam, 5 D'awmg Fgures HAIR ROLLER BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention This invention relates generally to hair beauty aids and more specifically to an improved device for straightening and curling hair simultaneously, as desired.
2. Description of the Prior Art There are, of course, many known hair curlers and rollers on the market either made of metal or plastic. Some are bristled, some are smooth, some are clampable over the hair. However, there is no hair roller known to the present time by which the hair can be made as straight as desired, or as curly or kinky as desired and simultaneously.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is, therefore, among one of the principal objectives of this invention to provide an improved hair beauty aid which will overcome the prior art defects.
In accord with the present invention there has now been provided an improved roller for rendering hair both straightened and curled simultaneously which comprises an inside roller of minor diameter and an outside roller of major diameter, the inside roller being capable of being removably forceably fittable into receiving means provided for the same in the outside roller.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The invention will be hereinafter more fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIG. 1 is an exploded view in perspective showing the two components of the invention device.
FIG. 2 is an exploded end view of the invention as shown in FIG. 1.
FIGS. 3 and 4 show hair being curled around the smaller inside component of the device in either directron.
FIG. 5 shows the device fully assembled with hair in place and the entire device capable of being curled in either direction.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to the figures of the drawing it is to be understood that the entire device will be hereinafter referred to as the roller whereas its component roller parts will be further defined. The roller comprises an inside roller 12 of minor diameter and an outside roller 14 of major diameter. Both of these components may be made of any suitably rigid material such as plastic or a light metal, but preferably plastic, and still more preferably a hard plastic.
Inside roller 12 further comprises an elongated cylindrical annular body 16 having a plurality of vent holes 18 provided throughout. Outside roller 14 similarly comprises an elongated cylindrical annular body 20 having a plurality of vent holes 22. However, it is to be noted, and it is a critical feature of the invention, that inside roller 12 is of minor diameter with respect to outside roller 14 which is then a priori of major diameter with respect to the inside roller. Additionally, there LII is provided in annular body 20 an elongated, longitudinaL'partially circular channel 24 into which annular body 16 may be removably, forceably fitted. The latter feature is provided for by having the diameter D of channel 24 slightly smaller than diamter D" of annular body 16. Thus, rims 26 and 28 of the channel will forceably receive the slightly larger diametered annular body 16 and hold it secure.
The respective diameters of annular bodies 16 and 20 are, as earlier defined, of minor and major proportion, however, it is to be noted that the smaller the inside roller 12 the greater the degree of curl or kink to the ends of the hair. On the other hand, the larger the outside roller 14 the greater the degree of straightness to the main body of hair. This will be better understood immediately hereinbelow.
Describing now the operation of the invention, when it is desirous to achieve a hairdo with a straight body and an end flip," what is done is to curl the ends of the hair 30 clockwise around inside roller 12 (FIG. 4), for a desired length, depending on the flip desired, i.e., the more turns the more curl. Next, the inside roller with hair rolled therearound is forceably inserted into channel 24 of outside roller 14. Thereupon, the entire roller 10 (as assembled) is rolled counter clockwise (FIG. 5) to the scalp and then the roller is pinned securely. It is a special feature of this invention, that after shampooing, drying time is drastically reduced since up to about one-half of the hair is on the inside roller and up to about one-half of the hair is on the outside roller. This in contrast to prior art rollers wherein the small roller holds all the hair clipped in place, and it is difficult to dry.
When the hair is dry, the roller 10 is released and the hair unrolled and ultimately the inside roller is also unrolled of its hair. Normal brushing thereupon produces a hair-do with a straight body and an end outward flip. It can be seen that any number of variations are possible. That is the inside roller or outside roller can roll the hair either clockwise or counter-clockwise, as desired (FIGS. 3 and 5), to achieve any desired original effect. In other words, the end flip can be outward or inward and the main body of hair can be waved inwardly or outwardly.
What is claimed is:
1. An improved roller combination for rendering hair both straightened and curled simultaneously which comprises two rollers of different diameter with one roller provided as an inside roller and the other roller provided as an outside roller, said outside roller being of major diameter and said inside roller being of minor diameter with respect thereto, said outside roller being further provided with receiving means for removably receiving said inside roller so that hair may be alternately rolled around said inside and outside rollers, respectively, said inside and outside rollers further comprising vented annular bodies, said receiving means further comprising an elongated, longitudinal, partially
