  • This invention has for object a device to be arranged at the outlet of a machine, particularly a machine for shaping plastic bags, said device being so designed as to allow on the one hand the formation of a bag stack and on the other hand the removal of the formed bag stack, said device comprising an endless conveying belt on which the bags are stacked, control means to impart to said belt an intermittent movement through either a bag-counting apparatus or an apparatus measuring the bag stack height, a stop extending cross-wise to the belt movement direction and against which the bag stack is formed, and control means synchronized with the belt control means for imparting to the stop an alternating motion so as to release the formed bag stack and allow the removal thereof by said belt.

  • the movernents of belt 1 are intermittent and they are controlled in a way known per se, from a motor with reduction gearing 4 and through a bag-counting apparatus (not shown), said apparatus also acting on the control means for the stop 2 which are so synchronized with the control means for belt 1 as to impart thereto an alternating motion to cause the stop 2 to move away from the belt to leave a passage between said stop and belt 1 so as to allow the removal of a formed bag stack, and to return afterwards to its position against said belt, the belt movement only occuring when the stop 2 has completely released the passage for the bag stack.

  • Each pair of said uprights (13, 14) (13', 14') is arranged on a frame 22 which is so movable as to adjust the position of stop 2 according to the bag dimensions, said frames 22 being joined together so as to move simultaneously and in parallel relationship with the movement direction of belt 1 under the action of pinions 23 driven by a handwheel 24 and which mesh with two racks 25 which are attached to the device frame 24.
  • Cylinder 8 might under the action of the bag stack on which it bears, be rotated by friction about the axis thereof with the same linear speed as the belt 1 and thus retain the bag stack perfectly formed and this due to said stack being clamped between the cylinder 8 and belt 1.
  • cylinder 8 is so arranged as to be positively driven from the power cylinder 27 and by motor 4 and chain 28, with the same linear speed and along the same direction as belt I.
  • Said positive driving of cylinder 8 is performed by means of two belts 29 arranged on either side of endless belt 1 in parallel relationship therewith, cooperating with cylinder 27 and so arranged as to have the portions 30 thereof extending on the path of cylinder 8 when said cylinder moves to bear on the bag stack, said cylinder 8 thus being driven by friction by the belts as soon as endless belt 1 moves to discharge a bag stack.
  • Return pulleys 31 are provided for the belts 29 on the frames 22, said belts being provided as well as endless belt 1, with a spring tensioning device (not shown).

  • the stacking device further comprises advantageously a blowing ramp 32 which is arranged in parallel relationship and crosswise to the belt 1 between the outlet of the bag-forming machine and stop 2, said ramp supplied with lowpressure air being so directed as to rapidly bring the bags down on belt 1 or on the bag stack being formed and thus to prevent with a high production rate of the machine, the bags floating and colliding with the following bags before laying said bags down on the stack.
  • the device according to the invention and shown in FIG. 3 is so designed as to allow the formation ofa bag stack and the stocking on endless belt 1, of a determined number of formed stacks.
  • auxiliary cylinders 8 are associated to cylinder 8, the total number of cylinders being equal to the number less one of bag stacks to be stocked on belt 1 so as to release that bag stack fartest away from cylinder 8 and to cooperate with each formed stack in the same way as the cylinder 8 acting upon the newlyformed stack, said cylinders 8 and 8 being parallel, lying at the same level and being regularly spaced from one another in such a way that each one of said cylinders might bear on the upper side of the corresponding stack of bags 7 substantially in the same location on said side, means 33 and 34 being provided to operate the cylinders 8' in sucha way that the movements thereof be identical and simultaneous with the movements of cylinder 8.
  • each cylinder 8 is mounted on two parallel uprights l3, 13' similar to those uprights which support cylinder 8, said uprights 13, 13 for each cylinder 8 being arranged on a movable frame 35 which is controlled so as to move in parallel relationship with the lengthwise axis of belt 1, by a pinion 36 which is controlled by a hand wheel 37 and which meshes with the rack 25 attached to the device frame 26.
  • Said means 33 are provided to rotate about the shaft 9' thereof the cylinders 8 with the same speed as cylinder 8 and said means 33 comprise on the one hand a belt 38 cooperating with each one of cylinders 8 and 8 and driven by cylinder 8 and on the other hand, a resilient member 39 insuring tensioning of said belt 38 whatever he the spacing between cylinders 8 and 8.

  • Device as claimed in claim 1 which comprises a blowing ramp arranged in parallel relationship and cross-wise to the endless conveying belt between the bag-forming machine outlet and said stop, said ramp being so directed as to bring the bags down on the conveying belt and on a bag stack being formed.
