SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 385,!66, dated July 10, 1888.
Application filed January 28, 1888. Serial No. 262,273. (No model.)
the column, substantially as is hereinafter described and claimed, and as is illustrated in the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved column as before being ornamented; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3, a vertical section of the column ornamented; Fig. 4, a view in perspective, from its front, ofthe ornamented column; Fig. 5, a vertical section upon an enlarged scale, showing in detached parts the front portion of the ornamented column; and Fig. 6, a horizontal section, uponan en larged scale, on the line 6 6 of Fig. 2.
The same letters of reference denote the same parts.
The column is composed of four parts-the face A, the back B, and the two cheeks G G. The face and back are flat sheets. The cheeks are similarly provided with a flange, c, at the front edge of the cheek and with a flange, c, at the rear edge of the check. The face A and the flanges c c are riveted together, and the back B and the flanges 0 are riveted together, substantially as shown in Fig. 6. The ornamental portions D E F, each or all of them, may be attached to the face of the column, substantially as shown.
We claim- The herein-described sheet'metal column, the same consisting of the face, the back, and the two cheeks, said cheeks being similarly provided with flanges, which lap upon the outer side of said face and back plates, respectively, at the front and the rear edge of the cheek, and the parts being combined substantially as described.
