Abstract

The method applicable both to the execution of button-holes and to the execution of pocket-openings primarily consists in preforming the opening with turned-in edges in the bottom piece, in turning-in a braid and inserting said braid together with an auxiliary piece beneath the opening of the bottom piece, in fastening said braid and said auxiliary piece along one edge and at both ends of the pre-formed opening, and also in fastening the other edge of the opening of the bottom piece onto an auxiliary piece.

Claims (10)

1. The method of making a piped opening in a garment portion, comprising the steps of: a. pre-forming a rectangular opening with turned-in edges in a bottom piece of material having a front face which will be exposed in the completed garment portion, and a back face opposite to said front face, b. folding a piping on itself, c. placing said piping and an auxiliary piece of material against said back face of said bottom piece with the edge of said piping parallel to the lengthwise edge of said opening in said bottom piece, d. placing a line of stitching adjacent one short end of said opening to secure said piping and the auxiliary piece to said bottom piece, e. continuing said line of stitching along one lengthwise edge of said opening, f. continuing said line of stitching along the other short end of said opening, all of said aforerecited lines of stitching securing said piping and said auxiliary piece along three sides of said opening in said bottom piece so that said piping cannot be pushed through the opening in said bottom piece, and g. placing a line of stitching along the other lengthwise edge of said opening to secure together said bottom piece to an auxiliary piece, all said afore-recited lines of stitching being placed while said bottom piece is permanently maintained in one and the same position, said auxiliary piece being either the aforesaid auxiliary piece, whereby a button-hole with a single braid is obtained, or a further and other auxiliary piece, whereby a pocket opening with a single braid is obtained.
2. A method according to claim 1, further comprising the steps of: a. folding a further braid or piping on itself, b. placing said further piping together with said auxiliary piece of material and the first piping against said back face of said bottom piece with the edge of said further piping parallel to the other lengthwise edge of said opening in said bottom piece, whereby said further piping gets secured to said other lengthwise edge of said opening and to both said short ends of said opening by said lines of stitching placed along said other lengthwise edge of said opening and adjacent both said short ends of said opening, respectively.
3. A method according to claim 1, characterized in that all the fastening operations aforesaid are carried out with the right side of the bottom piece, facing, upwardly.
4. A method according to claim 1, characterized in that not only the other edge aforesaid of the opening of the bottom piece is attached to the auxiliary piece but also the two extremities of said opening are attached thereto a second time.
5. The method of making a piped opening in a garment portion, comprising the steps of: a. pre-forming a rectangular opening with turned-in edges in a bottom piece of material having a front face which will be exposed in the completed garment portion, and a back face opposite to said fRont face, b. pre-forming a rectangular opening with turned-in edges in an auxiliary piece of material identical with said opening in said bottom piece of material to provide a facing piece, c. folding a braid or piping on itself, d. placing said piping together with said auxiliary piece of material with both openings in register against said back face of said bottom piece with the edge of said piping parallel to a lengthwise edge of said opening in said bottom piece, e. placing a line of stitching adjacent one short end of said opening to secure said piping and the auxiliary piece to said bottom piece, f. continuing said line of stitching along one lengthwise edge of said opening, g. continuing said line of stitching along the other short end of said opening, all of said afore-recited lines of stitching securing said piping and said auxiliary piece along three sides of said opening in said bottom piece so that said piping cannot be pushed through the opening in said bottom piece, and h. placing a line of stitching along the other lengthwise edge of said opening to secure together said auxiliary piece to said bottom piece, all of said afore-recited lines of stitches being placed while said bottom piece is permanently maintained in one and the same position, whereby a braided button-hole is obtained.
6. A method according to claim 5, further comprising the steps of: a. folding a further braid or piping on itself, b. placing said further piping together with the first piping and said auxiliary piece of material with both openings in register against said back face of said bottom piece with the edge of said further piping parallel to the other lengthwise edge of said opening in said bottom piece, whereby said further piping gets secured to said other lengthwise edge of said opening and to both said short ends of said opening by said lines of stitching placed along said other lengthwise edge of said opening and adjacent both said short ends of said opening, respectively, in order to obtain a button-hole having two braids.
7. The method of making a piped opening in a garment portion, comprising the steps of: a. pre-forming a rectangular opening with turned-in edges in a bottom piece of material having a front face which will be exposed in the completed garment portion, and a back face opposite to said front face, b. providing a first auxiliary piece which is an outer half-bag of a pocket, c. folding a piping against an edge of said first auxiliary piece, d. placing together said piping and said first auxiliary piece against said back face of the bottom piece with the edge of said piping parallel to a lengthwise edge to said opening in said bottom piece, e. placing a line of stitching adjacent one short end of said opening to secure said piping and said first auxiliary piece to said bottom piece, f. continuing said line of stitching along one lengthwise edge of said opening, g. continuing said line of stitching along the other short end of said opening, all said afore-recited lines of stitching securing said piping and said first auxiliary piece along three sides of the opening in said bottom piece so that said piping cannot be pushed through the opening in said bottom piece, h. placing a further auxiliary piece which is an inner half bag of a pocket against said piping and said first auxiliary piece, and i. placing a line of stitching along the other lengthwise end of said opening to secure together said bottom piece to said further auxiliary piece, all said afore-recited lines of stitching being placed while said bottom piece is permanently maintained in one and the same position, whereby a braided pocket opening is obtained.
8. A method according to claim 7, characterized in that a second braid is formed by turning-in and is also inserted beneath the bottom piece together with the second auxiliary piece which has previously been attached to the sEcond pocket half-bag, said second braid is attached to the other edge of the pre-formed opening by means of the same operation of attachment of the second pocket half-bag fitted with the other auxiliary piece and the two extremities of the opening are finally attached a second time in order to obtain a pocket having an opening wth two braids.
