Definitions
- Watkins Attorney, Agent, or FirmWalter Becker ABSTRACT An opening-up drum for an open end spinning device in which the outer peripheral surface of the openingup drum is provided with helically arranged elevations formed, for instance, by needles. saw-tooth wire or similar solid steel wire.
- the present invention relates to opening-up drums for open end spinning devices in which the periphery of the drum is provided with elevations.
- an opening up of the supplied slubbing is necessary.
- high speed opening-up drums are employed which rotate at a certain differential speed with regard to the spinning turbine.
- the opening-up drum be provided with elevations which bring about a loosening up of the slubbing into individual fibers.
- an object of the present invention to provide an arrangement of the elevations on the circumferece of the opening-up drum, which will be economical and still assure a proper opening up of the slubbing into individualfibers.
- FIG. 1 diagrammatically illustrates a conical opening-up drum with needles arranged in confonnity with the present invention.
- FIG. 2 shows an illustration similar to that of FIG. 1 with saw tooth wire.
- FIG. 3 is a modification of the device shown in FIG. 2.
- the opening-up drum according to the present invention having its circumferential surface provided with elevations is characterized in that these elevations are arranged along a helical line.
- the helical line arrangement makes it possible that with a limited total number of elevations, these elevations move over the working width of the opening-up drum on circular paths arranged adjacent to each other. In view of the high speed of rotation of the opening-up drum, it suffices if each of these paths has only one or a few elevations.
- the helical arrangement of the elevations is particularly well suitable for opening-up drums on the circumferential surface of which, especially when the openingup drum is coaxial with or laterally offset with regard to the spinning turbine, the individual fibers are moved by a combined movement in circumferential and axial direction of the spinning turbine.
- the transport of the individual fibers is assured in axial direction to an increased extent inasmuch as according to a further development of the invention, the helical lines along which the elevations are provided extend in the direction of rotation of the opening-up drum toward the axial direction which is opposite to the movement of the individual fibers.
- needles of the heretofore known type may be arranged.
- the present invention makes it possible over heretofore needle arrangements to reduce the number of needles while maintaining the same output.
- the saw tooth wire or similar solid steel wire may with its foot portion. likewise be received in helical grooves provided in the circumferential surface of the opening-up drum. In this connection, the grooves are so arranged that the teeth of the thus received wire are substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the drum.
- Another possibility consists in arranging the saw tooth wire or similar solid steel wire over an inclined supporting surface on the periphery of the conical opening-up drum.
- the saw tooth wire or similar solid steel wire is provided with a foot portion which is inclined in conformity with the conicity of the opening-up drum and the ascent or pitch of the helical lines.
- FIG. 1 dia grammatically illustrates a device for the open end spinning, which device includes a spinning turbine 1, an opening-up drum 3 coaxially arranged with regard to said spinning turbine and of a conical design and adapted to rotate in the housing 2, and also comprises a feeding drum 4.
- the opening-up drum 3 has its circumferential surface 5 provided with elevations which are formed by needles 6 and which in conformity with the present invention are arranged. along helical lines 7.
- the helical lines when viewed in the direction of rotation of the drum 3 as indicated by the arrow 8 extend in the axial direction indicated by the arrow 11, which direction is opposite to the direction of movement or transporting direction of the individual fibers 9 as indicated by the arrow 10.
- the spinning turbine 1 rotates in the same direction as the opening'up drum 3 namely, in the direction indicated by the arrow 15.
- the saw tooth wire 12 which is known per se, is arranged along helical lines on the circumferential surface 5 of the opening-up drum 3..
- the teeth 13 of the saw tooth wheel are arranged substantially perpendicularly with regard to the axis of rotation 14 of the opening-up drum 3.
- the saw tooth wire 12 has its foot portion 16 arranged in helical grooves 17 provided on the circumferential surface 5 of the opening-up drum 3, the bottom of said grooves 17 being indicated in dash lines at 18.
- the saw tooth wire 12 is with a corresponding conicity of the opening-up drum 3 and the foot portion 19 inclined in conformity with the pitch of the helical lines 7 arranged on the circumference 5 of the openingup drum 3 while between its windings there is provided a band 20 for determining the spacing between said windings.
- the connection of the saw tooth wire 12 and the spacer band 20 to the opening-up drum 3 is effected in a known manner, namely, by soldering these members at their ends to the circumference 5 of the opening-up drum 3.
- a rotatable opening-up drum on the circumferential surface of which the individual fibers are movable jointly in circumferential as well as in axial direction of said spinning turbine, said circumferential surface of said opening-up drum being provided with helically arranged elevations which when viewed in the direction of rotation of said opening-up drum ascend in that axial direction of said drum which is opposite to the direction of the axial movement of the individual fibers on said drum.
- An opening-up drum for open end spinning devices which has its outer circumferential surface provided with helically arranged elevations, the helically arranged elevations being formed by saw-tooth wire, the outer circumferential surface of said drum being conical and tapering in the direction of the ascent of the helically arranged elevations, and the saw-tooth wire forming said helically arranged elevations having a foot portion connected to said circumferential surface of said drum, said foot portion being slanted in conformity with the conicity of said drum and the ascent of said saw-tooth wire.
- An opening-up drum according to claim 4 in which the outer circumferential surface of said drum is provided with a helical groove having said saw-tooth wire seated therein so that the teeth of said saw-tooth wire project from the circumferential outer surface of
