Abstract
In a development of the roller surface the needles (13) are so arranged that the individual needle (13) is disposed in the point of intersection of at least two straight lines (14 to 19). Each straight line (14 to 19) is a helical line on the surface of the roller. The object of the invention is an improved carding of the fibres, a gentle treatment of the fibres and a reduced stress on the carding roller. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A ring provided with a set of needles for the carding roller of an open-end spinning machine
The invention relates to a ring provided with a set of needles, which project from the outer surface of the ring and are regularly arranged, for the carding roller of an open-end spinning machine.
Such a carding roller has the task of unravelling the fibres of a sliver which is supplied thereto so as to form individual fibres and move these on to a fibre guide channel of the open-end spinning machine.
The carding roller carrying the ring is driven, for example, by a tangential belt which is passed over an entire machine side of the open-end spinning machine. However, different driving facilities are also possible.
Hitherto, the needles were so arranged on the ring that the individual needle is disposed in the point of intersection of two straight lines, of which one straight line is a helical line and the other straight line is a parallel line through the central axis of the ring.
In this arrangement, all the needles which are disposed in the last-mentioned straight line simultaneously engage in the fibre tuft of the supplied sliver. This leads to compactions in the individual fibre strands and to an increased friction between the fibres and also to an increased friction between the fibres and the needles. This results disadvantageously in a higher moment of rotation of the carding roller, an inadequate separation of the fibres, damage to the fibres in the form of shortenings thereof and to an increase in abraded material.
The object of the invention is to avoid the described disadvantages and to improve and equalise the carding of the fibres while treating the fibres gently.
According to the invention there is provided a ring having a set of needles, which project from the outer surface of the ring and are regularly arranged, for the carding roller of an open-end spinning machine, wherein the needles (1 3) are so arranged that
(a) the individual needle is disposed in the point of intersection of at least two straight lines (14 to 19),
(b) each straight line (14 to 19) is a helical line,
(c) each straight line (14 to 19) lies outside a circular circumferential line and outside a parallel line through the central axis (20) of the ring (11).
Further according to the invention each individual needle (13) lies in the point of intersection of three or a multiple of three helical lines (14 to 1 9).
The advantages attained by way of the invention consist, in particular, in that there is rendered possible an effective carding of the sliver into individual fibres along with a gentle treatment of the fibres and, furthermore, a shock-like stress on and a higher moment of rotation of the carding roller, which carries the ring, are avoided.
An exemplified embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings. The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to this exemplified embodiment.
In the drawings Figure 1 shows a top view of the ring, and
Figure 2 shows a partial development of the outer ring surface, on which the systematic arrangement of the needles is clearly visible.
The ring 11 carries a set 1 2 of needles 1 3 which are regularly arranged in such a way that the individual needle is disposed in the point of intersection of six straight lines 14 to 1 9. Each of these straight lines is a helical line. None of the straight lines lies in a circular circumferential line and none of the straight lines lies in a line that is parallel to the central axis 20 of the ring 11.
The helical straight line 1 4 most resembling a circular circumferential line deviates from a circular circumferential line by approximately 1 degrees. The helical straight line 1 7' most resembling a parallel line through the central axis 20 of the ring 11 deviates from a parallel line through the central axis 20 by approximately 1 7 degrees.
The arrangement shown is a very effective and well proven arrangement. Expediently, provision will thus be made that, in particular, the straight lines 14 and 1 7 lie in the mentioned angular range.
Since a circular circumferential line and a parallel line through the central axis of the ring must be considered borderline cases of helical lines, no straight line is to be disposed in a circular circumferential line or in a parallel line through the central axis of the ring.

(b) each straight line (14 to 19) is a helical line,
(c) each straight line (14 to 19) lies outside a circular circumferential line and outside a parallel line through the central axis (20) of the ring (11).
