NAPKlN-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 383,8Q'7, dated June 5, 1888.
Application filed December 27, 1887. Serial No. 259,135. (No model.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, ALBERT PERRY BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Thawville, in the county of Iroquois and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Napkin or Bib Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a napkin or bib holder; and it consists in a certain novel construction and arrangement of parts, fully set forth hereinafter, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
The object of the invention is to provide means whereby a napkin or bib may be held properlyspread over the bosom without tying or pinning the same, and which may be very easily put in place and removed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a detail view of the holder. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a napkin applied thereto.
Referring by letter to the drawings, the device compriscs, mainly, the outer and inner wire rings, A and B, respectively, the free ends of which rings are placed together and wound with fine wire or other similar material to hold them firmly together. The inner spring or ring, B, is sutiiciently smaller than the outer ring to make an opening between the same at the centers or at the front of the device.
0 G are small balls or knobs secured on the ends of the springs to prevent the ends of the latter from hearing against the neck of the wearer.
The manner of using the-device is as follows: The corner of the napkin is passed up between the springs at the front, and the corner folded inwardly, so as to cover the inner spring and prevent the neck of the wearer from coming in contact therewith. It will be seen that as the corner of the napkin'is drawn up between the springs the edges thereof will pass along to the part of the holder where the said springs are very close together, and it will thus be clamped between them and held securely. To place the holder on the neck,
separate the rear ends thereof, and. when released it will be seen that the holder encircles the neck and holds the napkin close up under the chin in the proper position to protect the bosom.
The device, as will be seen, is very simple and very readily applied. It may be nickel or silver plated, and thus made very ornamental, the material of the springs being preferably spring-wire.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The improved napkin -holdcr herein described and shown, consisting of the curved round wire springs A B, having their ends joined together'and wrapped with fine wire, and the knobs O O, secured on the ends of the springs A B, the said springs being slightly separated at their center to receive and hold the corner of a napkin, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that [claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT PERRY BAKER.
