The size of the UNITED STATES PATENTS waist of the trousers is thus freely adjustable to the size of the waist of men who wear the trousers. 2,569,853 10/1951 Grue 2/237 2,626,397 1/1953 Lewis 2/237 3 Claims, 10 Drawing Figures 'WAIST-SIZE ADJUSTABLE TROUSERS The present invention relates to trousers, whose waist can be freely adjusted. More particularly, the trousers are of a type provided with a tuck in the waist adjustably folded for loose-fit to the wearer when put on, the trousers, having been made a bit large for him.
If the tuck is made in an unsuitable position, the portion near this tuck would become badly configured. This causes the trousers to become unfit to the body of man who wears the trousers. In order to conseal such a tuck from viewers in front of the wearer, it has been considered to provide the tuck at a position above the side pocket. Yet in this instance, undesirable crimps are produced around the side pocket. Furthermore access of the side pocket by the wears hand is made difficult.
The first objective of the present invention is to eliminate the faults in contour and unfitness of the trousers of existing type and to provide improved trousers of good style and of use to the wearer.
The second objective of the present invention is to make the waist size variable according to the wearers girth instead of having a constant size as seen in the conventional trousers.
The third objective of the present invention is to form the tuck fold at the front side of the waist to align with an extension of the front crease line of trousers.
The fourth objective of the present invention is to simplify waist adjustment, and to increase the holding effect and life of the fastening band to be used for adjustment.
Other objectives or advantages of the present invention will be further disclosed as description proceeds with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In order to achieve the above objectives,'the present invention provides a convenient tuck to be formed above the front crease line of the trousers with an improvement over the conventional type so that the size of the waist may be freely adjustable. The portion in the waist sewed to the front body of the trousers, where the tuck is to be formed, is freely bendable as this portion has no core material therein.
Fastening bands may be provided to both sides of the tuck of a the waist part. The fastening band consists of buckle and a band of small width. When this band of small width is inserted and fastened to the buckle, the waist part is shortened to form a tuck. Also, a non-skid sheet is sewed on the back of the small-width band to prevent the slip of this band and to lengthen its life. The tuck formed on the waist part is pulled in a definite direction by means of an elastic band so that the tuck forming position may be exactly on the extension of the crease line of the trousers.
FIG. 1 is a front view of the trousers in the case when the waist of the trousers is maximized.
FIG. 2 is a front view of the trousers in the case when the waist of the trousers is shortened.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of an essential part in FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken along the line lVIV in FIG. 3.
FIG. 5 is a sectional front view of the buckle. FIG. 6 is a partly cut-away side view thereof.
FIG. 7 is a sectional view of the narrow band, and
FIG. 8 a view thereof.
FIG. 9 shows another embodiment, and is a sectional view of its major part. I
FIG. 10 is a back view of the embodiment shown in FIG. 9.
As shown in FIGS. 1 2, the left front body portion 1, and the right front body portion 2 of the trousers are sewed to the waist portion 3, which is incorporated with the back body portion of the trousers.
In FIG. 2, 8 is a pleat of the front body portion, 8" is a crease line and 12 is the side line where the front body portion is sewn to the back body portion.
A tuck is provided at the front side of the waist. The tuck 4, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, consists of the foreor outside folding part 5, folding line 8, fold line 7 and the back or inside folding part 6.
In FIG. 5, 19 is a slit through which the connection cloth 14 is attached. 21 is a narrow band. In the case when the holding piece 17 is turned in the direction of the arrow-mark A 17 shown in FIG. 5 to come parallel to the flange 15 narrow band 2 can be freely inserted and moved through the buckle. In the case when the holding piece 17 is at right angle to the flange 15, as shown in FIG. 5, narrow band 2 is held firmly between the flange 15 and holding piece 17.
As shown in FIGS. 3 4, one end of the narrow band 21 is sewed to the folding part 5, while the other end is inserted into the buckle 13. In the same FIG., 20 is a pocket to hold the other end of the narrow band 21.
As shown in FIGS. 7 8, narrow band 21 is made of cloth 22 consisting of a layer of top cloth and waist lining with a nonskid sheet 23 sewed thereon. Non-skid sheet 23 is made of synthetic resin. On its surface, a plurality of parallel ridges 24 are provided.
Another embodiment of the present invention shall be given hereunder: As shown in FIGS. 9 10, one end of an expander band 25 is sewed to the folding part 6 of the tuck 4 of the waist 3, while the other end is sewed to the other waist part 3 (left side of the Figure). When such a construction is given, tuck 4 is always kept pulled to the center of the tuck portion.
In case the waist size of the trousers does not fit snugly to the body of if the wearing person, or band presses the stomach when he sits down or when he walks, it is necessary to expand or contract the waist of the trousers.
The case when the waist of the trousers are to be contracted according to the present invention, it will be described with reference to the drawings. The waist parts 3 are connected by means of known chucks and front hooks, and then narrow band 21 is inserted through the buckle 13, The flange portion 15 of the buckle 13 then enters between the adjacent ridges 24 of narrow band 21, both are fast engaged, and tuck 4 is produced in the waist portion 3. Thus the fold 8 of the tuck 4 and the pleat 8 formed on the front body of trousers come to align with an extension of the front crease line 8" of trousers.
In the embodiment when the elastic band 25 is laid on the waist, tuck 4 is drawn to the center of the tuck portion so that the pleat line 8 and the crease line 8" of trousers may come in a straight line.
The advantages of the trousers of the present invention are such that, as there is no core material in the truck portion of the waist 3, this portion is easily foldable. As the fastening band is at the front side of the body of the wearing person, handling is easy for the wearer. As the buckle 13 is used, operation by one hand is enabled, and the narrow band 2 may be securely held. Also by virtue of the narrow band 21, tuck 4 of the waist can be covered and hidden.
When this invention is put in use, the waist is adjusted by means of the tuck. Consequently, a maximum adjustment of, approx. cm is possible for the consumer. In the case when readymade trousers are made, the standardized number of waist sizes can be reduced by 1/2 when selling the stock may thus be minimized.
Any improvement or modification to the detailed construction of the present invention may be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention as set forth in the appended claims.
