The wash basin includes a liquid collecting part and a flanged part. The liquid collecting part of the basin includes a bottom and aside with the flanged part of the basin extending peripherally about and outwardly from the upper margin of the basin side. A pressure sensitive adhesive is carried by the flanged part at the lower face thereof. As the basin liquid collecting part is seated in an openingin the support, the pressure sensitive adhesive carried by the basin willbe pressed into contact with the top of the support to cause the basin to be fixedly and securely anchored to the top.
It is an object of this invention to provide a wash basin which can be fixedly secured to the top of a support in a rapid and effortless manner.
It is another object of this invention to provide a wash basin which is of economical construction and which carries means permitting the basin to be rapidly and fixedly secured to'a support.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a wash basin which canbe simply and rapidly secured to a support and which includes a drain outlet of simple and reliable operation.
Other objects of this invention will become apparent upon a reading of the inventions description.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING A preferred embodiment of thisinvention has been chosen for purposes of illustration and description wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the basin fixedly secured to a cabinet top.
FIG. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1. v i 7 FIG. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken along line 33 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the adhesive carried by the basin, with the basin in disassembled form. j
The preferred embodiment illustrated is not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise form disclosed.- It is chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the invention and its application and practical use to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the invention.
The support 10, shown as a bathroom vanity, is provided to accommodate basin 12. Support includes a top 14 having an opening 16 formed therein. Basin 12 is formed of a liquid impermeable composition, such as 30 fits within channel portion 28 of the basin flanged part 24. Sealant material 30 is securely bonded to chanthe upper margin of said side, a pressure sensitive adheto the outer edge of lip portion 26. A sealant material nel portion 28, suchas by a suitable adhesive, and includes a lower face 32 which preferably projects slightly below lower face 34 of lip portion 26 of the flanged part 24. Lower face 34 of material 30 has a pressure sensitive adhesive 36 applied thereto. Material 30 can be formed of a rubberized or plastic material. During storage and shipment of basin 12, prior to its attachment to support .10, a removable protective sheet 38 covers adhesive 36 (see FIG. 4). Sheet material 38 may be formed of a waxen paper which permits material 38 .to be removed from lower face 32 of the sealant material to expose adhesive 36 just prior to assembly of the basin withthe support. a
One or more housings 40 may be carried by basin 12 to accommodate faucet fittings. Additionally, bottom wall 22 of basin 12 may be formed with an integral drain fitting 42 which carries a shiftable stopper 44. Drain fitting 42 includes an annular-side wall 46 which forms an annular valve seat 48. The lower marginal portion of fitting sidewall 42 carries a spider 50 having a central opening therein which accommodates stem which top 45 is seated uponseat 48 in sealing engagement.
Once support 10 has been assembled or-placed in the housing or building unit, protective sheet material 38 is removed from over the adhesive 36 carried by sea]- ant material 30 and the liquid collecting part 18 of the basin seated in accommodating opening 16 with the adhesive 36 contacting the upper face 54 of support top 14- and making sealing contact with the support. The peripheral sealing nature of adhesive 36 not only secures basin 12 to support 10, but it also forms a liquidtight seal between flange portion 24 of the basin and top 14 of the support as the adhesive encircles collecting part 18.
The term wash basin as used in the foregoing specification and following claims includes such fluid receiving receptacles as double and single kitchen sinks, bathroom lavatories, and laundry room sinks.
It is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the details herein given but may be modified within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim:
1. A wash basin adapted for securement to the topof a support having a marginal edge portion defining opening means for receiving said basin, said basin comprising a'liquid collecting part and a flanged part, said collecting part having a bottom and side, said flanged partextending peripherally about and outwardly from sive means carried by said flanged part adjacent the lower face thereof, said adhesive means for making sealing contact with said marginal edge portion of the top when said collecting part is seated in said top opening, said flanged part including an inverted channel portion, said adhesive means including a moldable sealant material fitted into said channel portion and having a lower face, said adhesive means further including a pressure sensitive adhesive material covering the lower face of said sealant material, said adhesive material causing said basin to be rigidly secured to said support when said collecting part is seated in said top opening.
2. The wash basin of claim 1, wherein said flanged part includes a generally horizontal lip portion connecting said channel portion to said collecting part of the basin, said sealant material lower face extending below said lip portion.
3. The wash basin of claim 1 and a removable sheet collecting part. 7
