Abstract

A picker strap assembly comprising a picker strap having shanks traversed by a bolt and disposed between plates, the end of each shank is turned about one of the plates and the inner plates have flanges which flank the respective shank of the picker strap.

Ross, Herbert Dubno [57] ABSACT 2 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures l PICKER STRAP FOR UNDERPICK LOOMS This invention relates to an improved picker strap for underpick looms having a bolt which passes transversely through the two shanks of the inverted U- shaped picker strap and serves to connect the intermediate piece or spacer sleeve.

With the picker straps known heretofore there is danger that the bores in the shanks of the picking strap, which take the tie-bolt, may become enlarged in the course of time under the action of the continual violent picks. As a result, the shanks of the picking strap eventually break open in the region of the bores, which results not only in premature wear and tear of the picking strap, but also in an appreciable loss of production on the respective high-duty machine due to the expenditure of time required for dismantling and fitting the new strap.

To obviate these drawbacks, according to the invention a picking strap has shanks which are provided with outwardly bent ends, each adapted to snugly engage around a reinforcement plate mounted on the tie bolt on the outside of the shanks.

The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of the invention, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a front view of the picker strap, partly in section;

FIG. 2 is a side view of the picking strap as seen in the direction of the arrow II indicated in FIG. 1', and

FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line III-III of FIG. 1.

In the example illustrated, numeral 1 designates the inverted U-shaped picker strap consisting of, say, plastic, rubber or the like as reinforced with fabric, both shanks 1a thereof being interconnected in the usual way by a semicircular web or bight lb. As visible from FIG. 1 the free shank ends are bent outwardly at right angles. These offset shank ends engage over reinforcement plates 2 and 3 arranged on the outside of the shanks. Numeral 4 designates a tie-bolt which passes transversely through the plates and the shanks of the picking strap. On the inside the shanks are received between flanges of plates 5 and 6 with bolt 4 passing therethrough, the plates being spaced apart by a sleeve 7 surrounding the bolt 4. The shanks 1a of the picker strap as well as the plates 2, 3 and 5, 6 are provided at the common contact points with interengaging elevations and recesses, say, ribs and grooves, to ensure a form lit in known manner. The plates 5, 6 include lugs or flanges 5a and 6a respectively, which extend at right angles to the planes of the plates and, flank the shanks of the picker strap at both ends.

The picks or tractive forces acting upon the picking strap in the direction of the arrow A indicated in FIG. 1 are no longer transmitted only via bores and grooves in the shanks, but additively onto the plates 2, 3 and thence onto bolt 4 by the outwardly offset shank ends lc snugly fitting said plates.

What I claim is:

l. A picker strap assembly comprising a picker strap having a pair of generally flat shanks provided with bores; a pair of plates bearing on opposite faces of each shank and including an inner plate and an outer plate; a bolt traversing said bores and said plates and urging said plates against said shanks; and a spacer sleeve surrounding said bolt and interposed between said inner plates, said shanks each having an end projecting beyond and turned around an edge of one of the plates of the respective pair.

2. The assembly defined in claim 1 wherein each shank end is bent at right angles to the shank around an edge of the respective outer plate.

Claims (2)

1. A picker strap assembly comprising a picker strap having a pair of generally flat shanks provided with bores; a pair of plates bearing on opposite faces of each shank and including an inner plate and an outer plate; a bolt traversing said bores and said plates and urging said plAtes against said shanks; and a spacer sleeve surrounding said bolt and interposed between said inner plates, said shanks each having an end projecting beyond and turned around an edge of one of the plates of the respective pair.

2. The assembly defined in claim 1 wherein each shank end is bent at right angles to the shank around an edge of the respective outer plate.
