Heretofore, cigarette package wrappings prepared on cigarette wrapping machines were glued with cold glues which with each idling of the wrapping machine for a longer period of time requires a cleaning of the glue-applying device from the hardened glue. This cleaning is necessary not only after completion and at the end of the daily work period and prior to the start of the daily work period, but also by forced idling of the device in view of disorders, thereby considerably increasing the respective idling periods.
It is, therefore, an object of the present invention to provide a device for preparing cigarette package wrappings on cigarette wrapping machines which without regard to the device for the glue application will be ready to start at any time and willalso during forced machine idlingnot furnish any incompletely glued ciga rette package wrappings. v
' These and other objects and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly from the following specification, in connection with the accompanying drawing, diagrammatically illustrating a side view ofa device according to the present invention.
Starting from a device of the above mentioned heretofore known type, it is suggested according to the present invention, in addition to the adhesive container for the respective adhesive of any standard type also to provide the transfer roller and the segment roller with heating means, and at the end of the folding device to arrange a heated pressing strip and a cooling-off section following said strip.
In this way, a device is created according to the present invention which without cleaning the device for the application of the adhesive will be ready to start at any time; By the obtained reactivation of the adhesive prior to the desired gluing operation, a non-desired or incomplete gluing of the cigarette package wrappings will be prevented. These cigarette package wrappings will, by the application of pressure and the defined cooling off, safely be glued at the finish folded areas also when the cigarette wrapping machine had to be stopped in view of a failure or disturbance.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the transfer rollers and the segment rollers are respectively provided with a rotating electric heating cartridge.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, only that much is shown of the cigarette wrapping machine which is necessary for the understanding of the present invention. More specifically, only a conveyor path 1 is shown of the cigarette wrapping machine, on which path cigarette blocks 3 provided with a foil envelope are conveyed by followers 2. Each cigarette block 3 is to be inserted into a package wrapping 4 which is produced on a folding device located above the conveyor path 1 and with its open end face is, in the direction toward the oncoming cigarette blocks 3, deposited on the conveyor path 1. During the insertion of the cigarette block 3, the wrapping 4 is held stationary by a controlled abutment 5 which, following the insertion of the respective cigarette block, is moved out of the path of movement of the cigarette blocks 3.
The folding device used for producing the package wrappings 4 comprises a plurality of folding mandrels 6 which are connected to an endless chain 7 circulating in steps. This chain 7 is driven by a driving roller 8 and is passed around a reversing roller 9 which, in the specific embodiment illustrated in the drawing, is located vertically above the driving roller 8. In view of this arrangement, two rectilinear circulating sections 'are obtained for the folding mandrel 6 connected to the chain 7. Within the region of these rectilinear circulating sections, the package wrappings 4 are folded.
Behind the circulating section which in the drawing is shown on the right-hand side, there is arranged a stack 10 of cuts 11 for producing the package wrappings 4. The individual cuts 11 are withdrawn from the stack by a suction device 12 and are conveyed to two transport rollers 13. One of these transport rollers 13 cooperates with a segment roller 14 which at its segments is, by a transfer roller 15, provided with a meltable adhesive stored in an adhesive container 16. in order to maintain the normally solid adhesive in liquid condition, the adhesive container 6 is equipped with a heating device 17. The segment rollers 14, as well as the transfer roller 15 comprise electrical heating cartridges 18 which rotate together with said rollers, in order to maintain the adhesive in liquid condition during the application of the adhesive.
By means of the device for the application of the adhesive, the cut 11 is, by a controlled lever 19, pushed onto one of the folding mandrels 6, the wide sides of which are parallel to its path of movement. During its stepwise movement, the folding mandrel 6 which carries the cut 11 moves into the region of longitudinal folders 20 which bring about the lateral folding of the package wrapping 4. By means of a controlled folding thumb 21, as well as by folding switches 22 and 23, the bottom of the package wrapping 4 is produced so that the mandrel 6 carries a package wrapping 4 which is folded with the exception of one end face when the mandrel enters the upper arc-shaped circulating section. in front of this arc-shaped circulating section and in its center thereis provided a heating device 24 each, by means of which the meltable' adhesive on the finish folded package wrapping 4 is reactivated by heating. The reactivation is concluded by a heating section 25 adjacent to the arc-shaped circulating section. This heating section 25 is arranged on a pressing strip 26 which latter produces the necessary pressure for a safe gluing of the package wrapping 4. This pressing strip 26 which is provided with the heating section 25 is followed by a cooling-off section 27, by means of which, while the pressed-on pressure is maintained, a consolidation of the adhesive and thus a safe gluing of the package wrappings 4 is effected. The cooling off of the cooling-off section 27 may be effected, for instance, by
air currents at low temperature which are supplied through air conduits 28.
v On each folding mandrel 6 there is provided a springurged arresting holder 29 which, after completion of the longitudinal folding, is placed upon the glue seam of the package wrapping 4 and presses against the same until the package wrapping 4 is withdrawn from the folding mandrel 6. For transferring the finished package wrapping 4 to a transfer device 30 located below the driving roller 8 for the chain '7, the holder 29 is, by means of a pressure lever 31 lifted off from the folding mandrel 6 so that the package wrapping 4 can be pulled downwardly.
The withdrawal of the package wrapping 4 from the folding mandrel 6 is effected by means of a withdrawing gripper 32 which withdraws the finished package wrapping 4 not only vertically downwardly from the respective folding mandrel 6, but in addition thereto, turns the same by 90 so that it can subsequently, with its wide side, be deposited upon the conveyor path 1. The package wrapping 4, which is open at its end face, will then with the finish glued bottom, engage the abutment so that a cigarette block 3 conveyed thereto by a follower 2 can be inserted into the open end face of the package wrapping 4.
It is, of course, to be understood that the present invention is, by no means, limited to the particular showing in the drawing, but also comprises any modifications within the scope of the appended claims.
