SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 380,720, dated April 10, 1888.
Application filed January 14, 1888. Serial No. 260,706. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JACOB B. HENRY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Apparatus for Inhaling the Fumes of Pine-Tar, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an apparatus whereby the fumes of pine-tar may be inhaled for remedial purposes.
In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicatelike parts, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved apparatus with a portion of the flexible tube represented as having been removed. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal vertical section of the same.
A is a vessel for holding hot water, provided with a handle, A, anda central opening, a, in the top, in which sits the vessel B, which is pailshaped, as shown, and provided with an annular external bead, b, for resting on the edge of the opening a in the vessel A.
Upon the vessel'B sitsa cooling-tank. This cooling-tank consists of the body or main portion 0, neck 0, and base 0, which forms a cover for the vessel B. A pipe, D, is placed in the side of the cooling-tank and connects with its interior, and on said pipe is placed a flexible tube, E, which connects with themouth- 0 piece H.
Boiling water is placed in the vessel A and pinetar in the vessel B. The fumes of the tar rise and pass through the neck 0 into the cooling-tank O and are inhaled by the patient, who places the piece H (not new in this in vention) over the mouth and nose and draws the fumes through the tube E.
If desired, the sides of the vessel B may be perforated, as at B, for the purpose of renewing the air in said vessel and allowing the patient to inhale the fumes continuously.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described apparatus for use in inhaling the fumes of tar, consisting of the hot water vessel A, provided with the opening a, the tar-vessel B, and the cooling-tanlk consist ing of the main portion O, neck 0, and base 0, said cooling-tank being provided with the pipe D for supporting one end of a flexible tube having a mouth-piece at its other end, sub stantially as and for the purpose set forth.
