Abstract

A carrier roller used for belt conveyors comprises a left shaft, a right shaft and a number of intermediate shafts connected to each other by sprocket chains, a pair of rollers in which the left and right shafts are inserted respectively, a plurality of rollers which receive the intermediate shafts, sleeves between both ends of each shaft and the roller carried thereon, and shackles attached to the left and right shafts.

The primary object of this invention is to provide a carrier roller which runs smoothly, so that the conveyor belt is prevented from moving in a zigzag direction.
The second object of this invention is to provide a carrier roller having great durability and strength, in which flexibility and tension are well balanced. v
The third object of this invention is to provide a carrier roller suspended from a hanger which is simply constructed so as to be suitable for supporting a carrier roller when set up in a carrier frame.
Other objects of this invention will be better understood from the following description of several embodiments thereof, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. I is a front view ofa carrier roller, lying flat, and adapted to support a belt conveyor;
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the same carrier roller;
FIG. 3 is a longitudinal section taken along the line l-I of FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 is a transverse section taken along the line II-II of FIG. 1;
FIG. 5 is a diagrammatic view showing how the carrier roller is suspended from the carrier frame by means of a hanger;
FIG. 6 is a front view of a second embodiment of the carrier roller;
FIG. 7 is a longitudinal section taken along the line llIIll of FIG. 6; 7
FIG. 8 is a transverse section taken along the line IVIV of FIG. 6;
FIG. 9 is a transverse section taken along the line VV of FIG. 6; and
FIG. I is a front view of a third embodiment of the carrier roller according to this invention.
In a normal carrier roller, the connected rollers are forcibly moved so that it can not prevent the conveyor belt from moving in a zigzag direction, and is not very strong. Moreover, when the rollers are supported in a frame, friction is produced between the vertical frame and the roller axis, which causes the carrier rollers to become fragile in a short time.
In this invention, a left shaft 1 is inserted in a pair of hollow ball-shaped elastic rotatable rolls 6 which are mounted on hard plastic sleeves 5, the centers of which are bored to receive said shaft. A right shaft 2 is inserted in a pair of rotatable elastic rolls 6 which are fixed to the sleeves 5, the centers of which are bored to receive said shaft. A number of intermediate shafts 3 are inserted in additional rolls, which are provided with central sleeves between the rolls and the shafts. One of the roller chains 4 connects the left shaft to the adjacent intermediate shaft, another connects said adjacent intermediate shaft to the next intermediate shaft and so on. A left shackle 13 is attached to the left of the hangers 7.
An alternative embodiment of this carrier roller, illustrated in FIG. 6, is constructed as follows:
A left shaft 1 is inserted in the left elastic rotatable cylinder 10 the center of which is bored to receive said shaft, and is provided with a sleeve between the roll and shaft. A hard plastic sleeve 5 is positioned between the cylinder and shaft. A right shaft 2 is inserted in the right elastic rotatable cylinder 11 the center of which is bored to receive said shaft, and is provided with a sleeve between the roll and shaft. The left cylinder 10 and the right cylinder 11 are connected to the ballshaped resilient rolls 6 in which the intermediate shafts and further sleeves 5 are inserted. The left shaft, a plurality of intermediate shafts and the right shaft are con nected to each other by sprocket chains. At the left end of the left shaft and the right end of the right shaft are the left shackle and the right shackle, respectively.
Yet another embodiment is illustrated in FIG. 10 and constructed as follows:
A left shaft is inserted into the bore ofa pair of cylin drical rolls connected by a common sleeve. A right shaft is also inserted into the bore of a pair of cylindrical rolls connected by a common sleeve. Each of a plurality of intermediate shafts is inserted in a cylindrical roll and sleeves are positioned between each roll and the shaft. The left shaft, the intermediate shafts and the right shaft are connected to each other by sprocket chains.
Since the left rolls or cylinders and the right rolls or cylinders are spaced from each other and are mounted on the left shaft l. and the right shaft 2 respectively by means of sleeves, and the left shaft is connected to the intermediate shafts, and the right shaft to the intermediate shafts through chain connections, not only do the left elastic rotatable rolls or cylinders and the right rotatable rolls or cylinders rotate smoothly, but also each shaft is flexible so that the conveyor belt runs smoothly and consequently this kind of carrier roller prevents the conveyor belt from moving in a zigzag direction and is very strong.
What is claimed is:
1. A carrier roller used for belt conveyors comprising; a left shaft, a right shaft, and at least one intermediate shaft, a plurality of rolls mounted on said shafts, said rolls being bored to receive said shafts and each shaft carrying a sleeve rotatable on said shaft, said sleeve extending through the bore in and engaging with both ends of each roll on that shaft, a plurality of sprocket chains which connect said shafts, and two shackles, one attached to each of said left and right shafts, the sleeve on each of said right and left shafts being at least twice as long as the sleeve engaging said intermediate shaft.
2. A carrier roller as claimed in claim 1 in which said rolls are hollow elastic balls.
3. A carrier roller as claimed in claim 1 in which each sleeve projects outwardly beyond the bore of the roll in left shaft and a right shackle 14 to the right of the right ,0 which it is received.

Claims (3)

1. A carrier roller used for belt conveyors comprising; a left shaft, a right shaft, and at least one intermediate shaft, a plurality of rolls mounted on said shafts, said rolls being bored to receive said shafts and each shaft carrying a sleeve rotatable on said shaft, said sleeve extending through the bore in and engaging with both ends of each roll on that shaft, a plurality of sprocket chains which connect said shafts, and two shackles, one attached to each of said left and right shafts, the sleeve on each of said right and left shafts being at least twice as long as the sleeve engaging said intermediate shaft.
2. A carrier roller as claimed in claim 1 in which said rolls are hollow elastic balls.
3. A carrier roller as claimed in claim 1 in which each sleeve projects outwardly beyond the bore of the roll in which it is received.
