UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
, HORST HEINKE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
l'NK-BLOTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379,067, dated March 6, 1888.
Application filed December 12, 1887. Serial No. 257.647. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HORST HEINKE, of New York city, New York, have invented a new and Improved InlrBlotter, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to a composition to be applied to a blotting pad, and which will readily absorb the ink.
The invention consists in the various features of improvement, more fully pointed out in the claims.
The accompanying drawing represents a transverse section of a blotter containing my improvement.
The letter a represents a wooden block having handle I) and provided with asheet of felt, c, secured to its curved lower side. This sheet offeltc is coated with my improved compound, d, which is obtained as follows:
One pound of glue is boiled in ten quarts of water until the glue is dissolved. Then five pounds of chalk, one pound of powdered brick, and one-fourth pound of borax are added. The whole is thoroughly stirred and is applied to the feltc by means of a brush. The coating thus applied will last for about a week, and may then be renewed with a brush, the mixture being well shaken before being reapplied.
An advantage of this composition lies in the fact that it permits ready renewal in a simple 5 1 manner, and that thus the blotter will not become saturated, so as to become useless, as is I the case with blotters and blotting compositions ordinarily employed.
i The chalk in the composition serves as an absorbent. The powdered brick is also an ab- 1 sorbent, and at the same time constitutes the coloringmatter. The borax prevents discoloration-that is, it prevents the composition from coloring the paper-while the glue binds HORST HElNKE.
