Description

nnunrtonwnnnnne, on NEW YORK, Y.
Letters Patent No. 104,862, dated June 28, 1870.
IMPROVED COMPOUND POR'PRINZERS' INK. I
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY Lonwnnnnne, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Compound for Printers Ink;' and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same.
This invention consists in" a compound made by adding to the ingredients composing ordinary or soluble printers ink, prussiate of potash, in such a manner that the ink'is rendered more soluble than without such addition, as hereinafter described.
In carrying out my invention, I take,'for instance, prussiate of potash, and'mix the same, eitherin adry state or in solution with the ingredients usually employed for making printers ink, about in the following proportion:
Printers ink, one. hundred parts; prussiato of potash, five to twenty parts; and with this ink 1 print on the paper or other material which is to be used for check, drafts, stamps, bond s, or other documents of value, any suitable design. Over this design the figures, words, or numbers expressing the value'or the current numbers of the docurnent, or serving tocancel the same, are writtenwith common writing-ink, and if an attempt is made to erase by chemicals, such as oxalic acid, nitric acid, or potash, the words or figures thus written, the color of the design printed with my compound is changed immediately, and the fraud is detected.
I am aware that it is not new to form a compound of iodide 'of potash or bromide of potassium, mixed with water, so as to discolor the surface when an attempt is made to extract figures; such I do not claim; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The compound for printers ink, made by adding to the ingredients composing ordinary or soluble printers ink, prnssiate of potash, as herein described, and
about in the proportions specified. Y
This specification signed by me this 15th day of April, 1870.
HENRY LOEWENBERG.
