A. DUFFY 8a C. J. BEIJING.
Zwin/@S565 Unirse Srarns Parent Carica,
ARTHUR DUFFY, OF IVANHOE, AND CHARLES J. RELING, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO; SAID RELING ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO MILLER OUTOALT, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
CRADLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378,389, dated February 21, 1888.
Application filed July l5, 1887. Serial No. 244,404. (No model) To @ZZ whom if; 11m/y concern:
Be it known that we, ARTHUR DUFFY and CHARLns J. RELING,both citizens ofthe United States, the former residing at Ivanhoe, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, and the latter at Cincinnati, in the same county and State, have jointly invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Cradles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip` tion, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specifica-tion.
Our invention relates to that class of roeking cradles which areprovided with platforms, and has for its object the application to such cradles ot novel fan mechanism, whereby the rocking` of the cradle actuates the fan.
The novelty ofour invention will be herein set forth, and specilieally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an end elevation ot' a cradle, showing the application of our invention. Fig. 2 is aside elevation oi' the same.
The same letters of reference are used to indicate identical parts in both figures.
A represents any ordinary cradle, whose rockers B rest upon a platform, C, ot' theusnal or any suitable construction.
D is an upright rod secured to the platform C. y justable, if desired, by ieans of the set-screw it, as shown. Its upper end is coiled, as at c, bent over and downward, as at b, and formed into an eye, as at c, to forni bearings for a horizontal fan shalt, E, which is inserted at its lower end through the eye c and loop a, and has secured f passed around said pulleys and connected to to it between these bearings a grooved pulley, F. The fan-shaft E is preferably extended to near the foot ot' the cradle, and has adjustably attached to it, by means of the eye-piece d and 'set-screw e, any suitable fan, G. A cord, H, is
passed over the pulley F and extends down around a second double-grooved pulley,I, upon a stud, f, secured to the rod D, and has its ends secured to therocker of the cradle at each side,
This rod may be made ad-f as shown in Fig. l. One or both of the ends of the cord may be connected to the rochers by spiral springs g.- It results from this construction that when the cradle is roc-lied the shaft E will be oscillated and the fan vibrated, as
will be readily understood.
By means of the eye d and setserew e the fan may be adjusted along,` the shalt E, as desired. Vhen not in use, the fau shaft E may be turned to throw the fan up out of the way, as u a horizontal fan-shaft extending over the cradle and provided with a fan, a grooved pulley secured on said l'anvshaft near the upright support, and a cord passed around said pulley and having its ends secured to the rocker of the cradle on opposite sides, whereby the rocking,` ofthe cradle vibrates the fan, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the platform C, eradle A, and rocker B, upright support D, provided With the loop a, bent portion b, and eye c, horizontal fan-shaft E, carryin` the adjustable 'fan G and provided with the grooved pnl ley F, doublegrooved pulley I, and cord H,
the rocker B on opposite sides by the springs g, substantially as described.
ARTHUR DUFFY. CHARLES J. BEIJING.
