0. G. LENZ. "Cradle.
No. 23 8,933. Patented March 15,1881.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CONRAD C. BENZ, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO F. HERHOLD & CO.,
OF SAME PLACE.
CRADLE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 238,933, dated March 15, 1881.
Application filed November 27, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, CONRAD C. LENZ, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cradles, of which the following is a specification.
The object I have in view is to produce cradles of that class which rock on a base, with simple, convenient, and durable means for enabling them to be rocked by foot; and the invention consists in the combination, construction, and arrangement of the peculiar devices employed by me for that purpose, as fully hereinafter explained.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, Figure l is a perspective view of a cradle provided with the improvement; Fig. 2, a sectional view of the connection with the cradle-body, and Fig. 3 a section through the pedal and a leg of'the base, showing the manner of supporting the pedal therefrom.
Like letters denote corresponding parts.
A is the body of the cradle having at each end a rocker, a, which rests and rocks on the straight rail b at each end of the base B. The cradle-body is prevented from displacement on the base by suitable connections, (not shown,) and its rocking movement is guided and limited in the manner usual in this class 0 of cradles.
Preferably, to the outer side of one of the legs 0 of the base is secured a pedal, 0. This pedal is supported by a horizontal bolt, D, having a collar, d, near its center, and nuts 0 nut f. The pedal C is cast in one piece with an arm, E, projecting therefrom, and to the end of this arm is pivoted a connecting-rod, F, having an eye in its upper end, which fits over a wood stud, G, projecting from the rocker a at that end of the cradle near one end of such rocker. An ornamental cap, H, is secured by a screw, h, over the end of the stud G, and holds the rod F thereon. By these means the cradle can be readily rocked by the foot of a person seated near the same.
The pedal,"it will be seen, can be supported from some other part of the base, and be connected with a different part of the cradle, without departing from the spirit of this invention.
What I claim as my invention, isi In a cradle, the combination, with the base B, having end rails, 11, and the cradle-body A, provided with end rockers, a, resting and rocking on the rails of the base, of the pedal C, having lugs g, and supported by the bolt D, having collar 01 and nuts 6 f, and secured to the leg 0, the arm E, rod F, stud G, and cap H, all constructed and arranged substantially as described and shown.
. CONRAD C. LENZ.
