RALPH H. MAXSON, OF RIOHBURG, NEW YORK.
STAND FOR DlSPLAYlNG GOODS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378,206, dated February 21, 1888.
Application filed December 24,1687. Serial No. 238,938. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, RALPH H. MAXsoN, of Richburg, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Stand for Displaying Goods, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description This invention relates to stands for displaying goods; and it consists of a stand for this purpose constructed and arranged as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the inven tion ready for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical sec tion thereof on line x in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail, partly in section and broken away, showing shelf-connection. Fig. is a detail, partly in section and broken away, of bracesupport; and Fig. 5 is a detail showing means for supporting the end of a shelf.
The stand embraces, in its general construction, a frame or open casing containing removable adj ustable shelves and an adjustable and folding brace-support.
1 indicates the frame or casing formed with double inclined top 2 and bottom 2, sides 3, and back 4., and secured to the back 4 are strips of wood 5, extending beyond the bottom 2 to form legs. To support the casing 1 a frame, 6, consisting of uprights 7 and cross-bar 8, is piv oted to strips 5, and is adj ustabl y held in open position by means of a bracebar, 9, pivoted to a strip, 10, on the back 4, and having a springcatch, 11, at its free end formed with shoulders 12, which engage a bent rod or loop, 13, on cross-bar 8. Any other suitable catch may be used in lieu thereof.
The sides 3 are provided with an outside strip, 14, extending from top to nearly the bottom of the casing, and with short strips 15, forming grooves 16 and at invervals spaces 1?.
Shelves 18, formed with projections 19, are mounted in the casing 1 by either sliding them in through the spaces at bottom of sides 3, or inserting them at any point through the front of the casing in an inclined position endwise and sliding the projections 19 in grooves 16 until a space 17 is reached, when the shelves 18 may be siid back in a horizontal position, with the projections 19 resting on strips 15. It will be observed that there is sufficient space between the rear of the shelfand the back 4 of casing to permit the shelf to he slid back, as just described. Instead of the shelves being held up in this manner, they may rest on goods, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2; or part of the shelves may rest on goods and the others be supported by strips 15. By means of the stand herein described goods of all kinds may be easily arranged and displayed.
The stand may be mounted on a counter or in any other suitable position. It is intended especially to be used with groceries, hardware,
or fancy goods, and will be made of a size adapted thereto; or it may be constructed to be used for books. \Vhen not in use, the bracesupport may be folded up.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a stand for displaying goods, a casing having an open front and sides formed with grooves connecting at intervals with spaces, and shelves with ends having projections adapted to engage said grooves and rest on strips forming said grooves, substantially as described.
2. A stand for displaying goods, consisting of an open-front casing having sides formed with grooves connecting at intervals with spaces, and shelves with projections on their ends adapted to slide in said grooves and resting on short strips forming the grooves, and an adjustable folding pivoted blflCGSllPDOlB, substantially as described.
3. A stand for displaying goods and other articles, consisting of open-front casing 1,
having its sides 2, with open spaces 20 at their ends, and provided with grooves 16, extending between spaces 17, movable shelves 18, having projections 19, engaging strips 15, supporting strips or legs 5, and a folding support, 6, and folding bracearm 9, having shouldered spring-catch ll, engaging loop 13 on support 6, substantially as described.
