ABSTRACT A wig stand having a top portion adapted to support a wig and mounted to a base portion by a telescoping shaft. The base contains a receptacle which surrounds the telescoping shaft and is covered by a cover having an aperture sized to receive said shaft. The top portion includes a plurality of smaller apertures through which pins may be pressed to fasten said wig to said stand as well as a plurality of larger apertures which have raised edges protruding upwardly from said top portion for engaging the underside of said wig and providing ventilation thereto.
1 Claim, 5 Drawing Figures W STAND BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to supportive structures for wigs.
Many types of supportive structures for wigs are known to the prior art; yet none of the known types include all of the following desirable features: First, it is desirable that the wig stand be compact for travel and yet have a certain height above its base so that wigs placed thereupon may be properly styled.
Secondly, it is desirable that a receptacle means be associated with the wig stand for carrying at least hair dress items with the stand and for protecting these items from inquisitive children.
Thirdly, it is desirable to securely fasten the wig to the stand, and fourthly, it is desirable to provide proper ventilation to the wig when in place upon the stand.
The applicants wig stand overcomes the preceding problems by providing a wig stand having a base portion and a wig supporting top portion joined together by a telescoping shaft and thus adaptable to either portabliity in the compact position or, in the extended po sition, to appropriate wig dressing.
The invention further includes a receptacle within the base portion which is closed by a cover having an aperture therethrough which is sized and positioned to receive the shaft and to cover said receptacle in a Also, the invention comprises a plurality of aperture extending through the wig supporting top portion, some of these apertures being sized to snugly receive hair pins for fastening the wig to the stand while other larger apertures provide ventilation thereto.
The large apertures may also have raised edges which protrude from the wig supporting portion towards the wig to engage the wig for aiding the pins insecuring same to the wig stand. J
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by referring to the drawings in which:
FIG. I shows a front view of the present invention, partially broken away;
FIG. 2 shows an inclined surface view of a cover for the receptacle;
FIG. 3 shows an inclined surface view of the bedplate of the present invention; and
FIG. 4 is a partial cross sectional front view similar to FIG. 1 and showing a wig in place; and
FIG. 5 shows the wig stand in accordance with the invention in its compact, portable state.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring to the drawings, the preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described as follows:
other hair dressing instruments while the other portion may contain toilet tools. The top of receptacle 3 is circular and sized to receive round fitting lid 5 in a force fit so that the lid may be removed from the receptacle only by an adult.
The receptacle also includes a central circular compartment for receiving the bottom end of telescoping support 6 and a fastening means 10 for securing. The support 6 has telescoping sections having an appropriate friction to remain extended as seen in FIG. 1 but to be collapsible to the position of FIG. 5 for compact portability. The other end of support 6 is secured to a wig support 7 which is adapted to receive a wig as seen in FIG. 4. The aforementioned support 7 has an internal diameter such that its lower end periphery fits over inclined surface 2 of bedplate 1. Further, support 7 includes holes 8; certain of these holes 8 are sized to receive hair pins in a snug fit to prevent wig A from sliding down from the support. Other larger holes 8 allow ventilation to reach the wig A from below, and these holes have engaging edges 9 for aiding the hair pins in securing wig A to support 7.
It is noted that not only hair pins, and other hair dressing instruments, but also toilet tools can be encased in receptacle 3 on bedplate I. Lid 5 is elastically fitted onto the round-formed end edge of receptacle 3 in such a way that it may not be removed from the edge except by an adult. In addition, wig A may be secured to support 7 by providing pin holes 8 and hair pins B. Certain holes 8 may also be provided with engaging edges 9 at proper spots on the circumference of stand 7 for aiding in engaging the wig A.
.Also, support 6 of the present invention is designed such that it may be collapsed onto bedplate l by shortening' it through compression to facilitate the portability of the wig stand.
Finally, the present invention, if made of metal, has excellent durability, and when produced with plastic resin, it is light in'we'ight and inexpensive. Therefore, if either metal or plastic resin is used as the'fabrication material, a wig stand combining excellent functioning and exceedingly fine appearance can be provided in accordance with the preferred embodiment.
What is claimed is:
l. A wig stand comprising:
a domed wig support member;
a base; and
a telescopic shaft interconnecting the wig support member and the base;
the base including means defining an annular upwardly opening receptacle about said shaft and including a rim surrounding the receptacle near the lower extent of the base;
the shaft being sufficiently telescopically collapsible that when the shaft isfully telescopically collapsed, theradially outer, lower edge of the domed wig support member lies adjacent the rim of the base and encloses the receptacle;
means defining a plurality of openings through the domed wig support member, at least some of said openings having means defining repstanding rims about them; and means defining an annular lid frictionally removably secured on the base for removably closing the receptacle.

Claims (1)
