Definitions

  • It may thus be produced for instance by cutting two juts out of a platelike material, bending these juts against each other, possibly into overlapping relationship, so that the juts form a lifting channel or eye for the lifting hook and two openings for the binding means are formed simultaneously.
  • This invention relates to a lifting piece for hoisting large packages tied by binding means, such as a looplike cable. Such lifting pieces may be used for example by loading bales of cellulose.
  • lifting pieces provided with a lifting loop or eye. They are fitted to the upper side of the package so that the binding means is pulled over the lifting pieces, in which case the lifting loop is left under the binding means.
  • These known lifting pieces have, however, the great disadvantage that they easily come loose from under the binding means and fall to the ground when the package has once been hoisted because the binding means stretches to some extent when the package is hoisted by it.
  • Another known method is to lift large packages or other similar heavy pieces tied by, for instance steel or plastic string, directly from the binding means, in which case this often breaks because of the bends formed. For this reason the binding means is usually pulled through some rounded lifting piece.
  • a large package is lifted by placing the lifting hook into the opening above the bindind means, in which case the force directed at the lifting piece is very great and, consequently, the strength requirements set for the piece usually make it very difficult and expensive to produce.
  • the object of the present invention is an easily made and inexpensive lifting piece for large packages and the like, a stationary lifting piece by which they can be lifted several times without the lifting piece coming loose or without the binding means breaking.
  • a lifting piece of the type described which comprises a channel for a lifting hook under the binding means, at least one opening in the lifitng piece through which the binding means can be fitted in order to fix the lifting piece so that the binding means runs over the lifting channel, said lifting piece being made of a platelike material, wherein the lifting channel has been formed by cutting and bending this platelike material.
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a lifting piece according to the invention
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of the lifting device according to FIG. 1 with two juts bent opposite and overlapping each other;
  • FIG. 3 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the lifting device according to the invention.
  • the lifting piece 1 shown in FIG. 1 has been formed by punching U-shapedjut 2 into platelike material.
  • the jut has been bent from the plate into a protruding arc, forming an opening 3 and a lifting loop or channel 4 in the lifting piece 1.
  • the binding means is pulled through the opening 3 over the lifting loop 4 so that the lifting loop, which is mainly formed by the bent jut 2, is left under the binding means.
  • lifting pieces can be placed along its upper edges in several different ways depending on the size, shape and weight of the package. The package can then be lifted either so that the hooks are placed under the binding means into the lifting channels 4, in which case the strain on a lifting piece remains insignificant,
  • the lifting piece 1 shown in FIG. 1 can also be used advantageously for large packages made up for instance by two adjacent piles of individual smaller packages.
  • the lifting piece is placed between the individual packages and the binding means is brought twice through the opening 3, the length of the binding means exceeding the total peripheral length of the large package by about twice the height of the piles and a downwards open loop of the binding means thus being pulled up between the piles and going through said opening 3.
  • the other part of the binding means going through this opening is that part extending across the overside of the large package.
  • the total package is then lifted by placing the hook in lifting channel 4.
  • the lifting piece is advantageous, firstly, for the reason that it cannot come loose from the package, because the binding means has been pulled through it, and secondly, the package can be hoisted by it in two different ways.
  • FIG. 2 shows a variation of the lifting piece according to FIG. 1.
  • Two U-shaped juts 6a and 6b, opposite each other, have been punched into the plate material.
  • the juts have been bent against each other so that they partially overlap, and together with the plate material between openings 7 and 8 they form a lifting loop 9.
  • the binding means is fitted through the openings 7 and 8 so that it runs over the archingly bent juts 6a and 6b.
  • This lifting piece 5 can be used in exactly the same ways as the lifting piece shown in FIG. 1, but it has the additional advantage that it is guided by the binding means because the binding means runs through two different openings 7 and 8 of the lifting piece 5.
  • the plate material of the lifting piece 5 shown in FIG. 2 is straight, but it may also be either bent or arching in the opposite direction from juts 6a and 6b.
  • the lifting piece 10 shown in FIG. 3 has been formed from platelike material so that'two juts, 11a and 11b, have been cut from its opposite sides.
  • the juts have been bent together to form a channel 12 for the binding means.
  • the plate material left on both sides of the juts has then been bent archingly under the channel 12 to form a lifting loop 13 for the lifting hook.
  • the lifting loops 4, 9 and 13 and the channel 12 created by cutting and bending in the variations of the lifting piece are mainly closed in order to increase the protection and guidance they provide.
  • the invention is not limited to the application of the lifting piece shown in the figures, but they can be varied within the enclosed claims in many different ways so that they can be used for hoisting, for instance, pipe or timber bundles, in which case the side of the lifting piece coming against the bundle is made arching.
  • a lifting piece for hoisting a large package tied by binding means which comprises a channel for a lifting hook under the binding means, two openings in the lifting piece through which the binding means can be fitted in order to fix the lifting piece so that the binding ing means can be fitted through both of the openings and over the bent sections.
  • a lifting piece for hositing a large package tied by binding means which comprises a channel for a lifting hook under the binding means, two openings in the lifting piece through which the binding means can be fitted in order to fix the lifting piece so that the binding means runs over the lifting channel, said lifting piece being integrally formed of a platelike material, said openings lying generally in a plane, and one side edge of each said opening being defined by a section of said platelike material bent outwardly from the plane of said openings, said bent sections extending towards each other to define said channel said openings being formed at opposite edges of said platelike material, the plate material on both sides of said bent sections being bent under the channel and forming guiding means for the lifting hook.
