Definitions
- ABSTRACT A removable hood for a dry-shaving apparatus pro' vided with a vertically adjustable skin tightening member which is arranged to be locked against rotation and maintained in engagement with a separate member for vertical adjustment by spring force.
- the invention relates to a removable shaving-hood unit for a dry-shaving apparatus comprising at least one shaving head and a surrounding circumferential skintightening member which is vertically adjustable relative to the shaving head.
- a vertically adjustable tightening rim is described in US. Pat. No. 2,223,286.
- the tightening-rim height to be used is adjustable by turning the rim.
- Such turning of the tightening rim has the disadvantage that during use a height adjustment is hardly possible, because such a turning movement causes the skin to bulge.
- the invention is characterized in that the skin tightening member, which is arranged so as to be locked against rotation, is maintained in engagement with a separate height-adjusting member by spring force.
- the invention is further characterized in that the skin tightening member and a plate-shaped shaving head support, which carries the shaving head or heads, are interconnected by springs disposed between them and are arranged so as to be capable of sliding movement relative to one another; in the mounting position of the shaving-hood unit the plate-shaped shaving head support is maintained in resilient engagement with a vertically protruding rim of the apparatus casing by these springs.
- This construction provides the advantage that the shear plate support may be mounted on the apparatus casing without further securing means.
- An embodiment of the invention is characterized in the the sleeve-shaped skin-tightening member has the form of the substantially conical surface of a truncated cone, the upper end of which is vertically flanged over inwardly; the rounded junction between the flange and the conical surface skin-tightening rim, and an annular lower end which, in the mounted positionof the shaving hood unit, resiliently engages the upper surface of an'annular abutment which is rotatably supported in the apparatus casing and is vertically adjustable.
- the vertically adjustable annular I abutment is spaced from the skin-tightening rim by a distance such that even during shaving a further refinement of the vertical adjustment of the skin-tightening rim is readily obtainable.
- each rib which is provided on the inner wall of the sleeve-shaped skintightening member and protrudes inwardly, is provided near its upper end with a preferably rectangular recess in which the body of a substantially U-shaped spring is freely movable in a vertical direction; the limbs of this spring project upward along both sides of the rib and extensions of these limbs (bent over outwardly at right angles) pass through slots formed in lugs which are located on both sides of the rib and project from the plate-shaped shaving head support; These extensions then terminate in mutually diverging upwardly protruding further extensions the free ends of which resiliently engage the inner wall of the transverse end of the skin
- the rib 10 has a preferably rectangular recess 19 formed in it; a body 20 of a substantially U-shaped spring 21 is freely movable vertically (see FlG. 3) in recess 19.
- the two limbs 22 of the spring 21 project upwardly each along one side of the rib 10.
- Outwardly bent extensions 23 of the limbs 22 pass though slots 24 in lugs 25 which are located on both sides of the rib 10 and protrude from the plate-shaped shaving head support 2, while after these extensions 23 have passed through the slots 24 they terminate in diverging upwardly projecting further extensions 26, the free ends of which resiliently engage the inner wall of the abutment rim 7.
- the extensions 26 of the spring 21 press the plateshaped shaving-head support 2 down against the vertically protruding rim 35, while in the vertical adjustment of the tightening member 1 the body 20 of this spring is vertically movable in the recess 19 in the rib l 1.
- This construction ensures that in any position of the tightening rim 7 the shear plate holder is maintained in resilient engagementwith the rim 35 of the apparatus casing.
- the annular abutment 9 is shaped substantially in, the form of an inverted U in a cross-section taken through the axis of the annulus.
- annular abutment at its outer wall 31 is provided with a projection which in the lowermost position of the tightening member registers with a digit zero indicated on a cover plate of the apparatus casing.
- This cover plate of the apparatus casing is not shown in the Figures. Successive digits on this cover plate indicate the extent to which the tightening member is vertically adjusted.
- the annular tightening member rests on a support 32 which is at a level relative to the apparatus casing which is not the same at all points, while the body of the abutment 9 is of varying thickness.
- the shaving-hood unit comprises two plates, the outwardly flanged walls of the hood-shaped shear plates of the shaving heads 4 being vertically movable between the said plates.
- the form of the plate-shaped shaving-head support 2 of the embodiment shown is triangular with rounded corners.
- the rotary disc 17 is provided with a lug 33 which protrudes from the shaving-hood unit and by means of which the disc may be rotated.
- a shaving hood unit comprising a top plate carrying at least one shaving head which plate and shaving head are positionable at a predetermined elevation relative to said casing, a sleeve having a bottom part,-and a top end formed as a rim that circumscribes said plate, the sleeve and plate resiliently secured together, means for releasably securing said sleeve to said casing coaxially therewith, first resilient means urging said sleeve axially downward relative to said casing, means for variably moving the sleeve upward relative to the casing while the plate is maintained at said predetermined elevation, such that said rim of the sleeve is positionable at varying elevations equal with and above said plate.
- said means for releasably securing the sleeve to said casing comprises at least one first lever pivotally mounted on said casing, the lever having a top arm engagable to said sleeve and a bottom arm, second resilient means urging said lever to be pivoted so the top arm engages said sleeve and urges same downward, drive means movably mounted to said casing for engaging said bottom arm of the lever and pivoting the lever such that the top arm thereof is disengaged from said sleeve, and consequently the sleeve and top plate are removable from the casing.
- Apparatus according to claim 1 further comprising means for fixing the minimum distance between the top of said casing and said top plate and shaving head while said first resilient means urges said sleeve and plate attached thereto downward, and third resilient means urging the plate downward relative to the top of the sleeve, the first resilient means having a greater spring constant than the third resilient means.
