Definitions

  • ABSTRACT A method of cleaning, especially removing undesired solid particles, from a wet-treated textile web, especially a printed web, continuously guided over rollers, wherein the textile web is guided past individual brushes over its entire width, at brief intervals or spacing, at those locations where the opposite face of the textile web travels over a web support, and directly thereafter this textile web is flushed.
  • the present invention relates to a new and improved method of cleaning, especially for removing undesired solid particles from a wet-treated textile web continuously guided over rollers, especially a printed textile web.
  • substances or materials which are to be freed in particular constitute residues emanating from the prior treatment, for instance certain water soluble chemicals, bleaching agents, lyes and acids, but also materials emanating from the web itself such as snarls and fibers, and finally actual foreign particles or contaminants, such as for instance marking dyes, printing ink or dye thickeners, non-fixed dye residues and contaminants resulting from transport of the web or from the treatment equipment.
  • one group of such state-of-the-art techniques and apparatuses is based upon the principle of forcefully spraying the textile web following the preceding wet-treatment in order to flush away the previously mentioned materials.
  • spray nozzles or spray tubes which experience has shown, however, do not release the solid particles adhering to the textile web.
  • these foreign particles upon passage of the web through the next successive squeezing mechanism, are even more intensively pressed into the web.
  • these spray batteries additionally have the notable disadvantage that they require a high consumption of water, increasing the operating costs, either because of the water consumption itself or by virtue of the required pumping power or load requirements.
  • a further disadvantage resides in the fact that if the spraying operation is too intensive, then under circumstances, the web travel can be considerably disturbed in that folds are formed in the web, or the web, owing to this spraying operation, laterally deviates from its associated guide rolls. Particularly when washing-out printed fabrics, a too intensified liquid jet or stream impinging upon the textile web, instead of flushing away the dye residues or the like can press such into the web, thereby forming speckling or spots at the web.
  • a further group of known techniques and apparatuses employs different auxiliary devices at the treatment baths themselves in order to bring about cleaning of the textile web and removal of non-desired materials therefrom.
  • either the treatment bath itself is placed into a state of turbulence and/or the web is brought into an oscillatory condition within the bath.
  • the mechanisms required to produce such turbulence or oscillations are quite complicated and expensive, especially as concerns the energy requirements for their operation. In many instances the action of such mechanisms is only effective for a brief period of time, oftentimes only for fractions of a second, and thus, the cleaning effect attainable with such mechanisms is frequently insufficient.
  • such mechanisms oftentimes require a sturdy construction of the treatment equipment and they are quite subject to disturbances. Even with these prior art devices creases or folds can form at the textile web, and the travelling web can tend to laterally deviate from its associated guideand deflecting rollers.
  • the thickening agents contain non-fixed dyes an unsatisfactory cleaning effect works in a disadvantageous manner upon the feel and the printing authenticity of the goods.
  • An optional mechanical action, for instance squeezing, is faced with the difficulty that the released dyes soil the bottom or ground shade of the fabric.
  • a primary object of the present invention is to provide new and improved techniques for effectively and reliably fulfilling the need still existent in the art and overcoming the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art techniques and equipment contemplated to be used for these purposes.
  • Another and more specific object of the present invention relates to a novel method of cleaning, especially removing undesired solid particles from a wettreated textile web which is continuously guided over rollers, especially a printed web, by means of which the previously explained drawbacks can be prevented and wherein it is possible to achieve in a most simple manner a really thorough cleaning action.
  • Still a further significant object of the present invention relates to a new and improved method of cleaning, especially removing undesired solid particles or materials from a wet-treated textile web in a most efficient and reliable manner and which method is relatively simple and economical to perform.
  • the method contemplated by this development resides in the features of guiding the web throughout its entire width at short intervals, at locations at which the opposite side thereof travels over a support, past individual brushes, and directly thereafter flushing the textile web.
  • a faultless effect is achieved owing to the repeated brushing-washing process as contemplated by this development, notwithstanding the protective treatment by virtue of the relatively limited effective time for each brush.
  • the inventive apparatus embodies a treatment section or housing containing rollers over which the textile web is guided. These rollers comprise a series of adjacently arranged upper rollers and a series of adjacently arranged lower rollers disposed in the treatment section which is filled with or contains the bath.
  • the textile web is alternately guided about an upper roller and a lower roller as it moves through the treatment section.
  • Individual brushes are arranged at least above the upper rollers, the bristles of which, in relation to an upper roller forming a support, extends over the entire width of the web guided past such brush and acts upon such web.
  • FIG. 1 schematically illustrates in sectional view a preferred construction of inventive apparatus for carrying out the inventive method
  • FIG. 2 is a schematic sectional view of the apparatus depicted in FIG. 1, taken substantially along the line IIII thereof;
  • FIG. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing a de tail of the equipment depicted in FIG. 1.
  • a wet-treated textile web B which is to be cleaned, especially freed from undesirable solid particles, is continuously guided from the preceding treatment stage in the direction of the arrow A through an appropriate squeezing mechanism 1 and over a suitable tension regulator 2 into the treatment section or housing portion 3.
  • This treatment section or housing portion 3 contains a series of adjaeently arranged lower or bottom rollers 4 and a series of likewise adjacently arranged upper or top rollers 5.
  • the textile web B is guided along a desired path of travel through the treatment section 3 alternately about a lower roller 4 and an upper roller 5, tinally leaves this treatment section 3 via a deflecting roller 6 and through the agency of a further squeezing mechanism 7 which continues to deliver the textile web B.
  • the treatment section 3 contains a soluble treatment liquid, such as a washingor treatment-bath.
  • small cylinder units 10 which are braced upon supports 11 of the treatment section 3 and by means of which the spacing of the cover member 9 from the treatment section 3 can be varied in the vertical direction. In this way it is possible to adjust the spacing of brushes [2, to be considered shortly, arranged as a brush unit at the cover member 9, from the textile web B.
  • any suitable adjustment means as schematically indicated by reference charae ter 20, may he provided so as to individually positionally adjust the brush rollers 12 relative to the textile web B.
  • Spray tubes or spray nozzles 15 are arranged between the brush rollers 12, by means of which a liquid jet or stream can be directed towards the contact line be tween the associated brush rollers 12 and upper rollers 5.
  • the installation can now be placed into operation, whereby, for the purpose of transporting the textile web in the usual manner, the upper rollers 5 and/or the bottom rollers 4 can be driven through the agency of a non-illustrated slip coupling from one of the squeeze rollers of the squeeze mechanisms.
  • the brush rollers l2 are placed into rotation by the drive motor 14 either with the textile web B leading or lagging.
  • the textile web B will be successively guided past the brush rollers 12 and thus each time brushed over its entire width.
  • the textile web B is again imrnersed into the treatment bath, so that the particles which were freed or released by the prior brushing operation can be floated or flushed away.
  • the textile web B is always supported at the opposite face or side thereof. This results in the advantage that the brushing effect can be carried out independent of the fact whether the textile web is transported with a greater or lesser tension, no creases or folds can appear and also the web cannot be shifted away.
  • the bristles 12a of the brush rollers 12 are additionally arranged in such a manner that the brush winding 17, in other words the arrangement of the wound bristles 12a on the brush rollers 12, extends in a screw-like of helicalshaped configuration from the center of the associated brush roller to both sides towards the ends of such roller, then by means of such construction of brush, during the brushing operation, there can be simultaneously produced a spreading or widening effect upon the textile web which markedly can counteract any tendency of folds or creases forming at such web.
  • the illustrated embodiment of treatment apparatus provides a large number of variation possibilities.
  • the textile web B can be also brushed at one or a number of locations where it is immersed in the liquid bath, in that for instance the housing portion or section 3 can be filled with liquid to a location above the height of the contact points between the brushes and the web.
  • the textile web could be, however, brushed in the free or surrounding atmosphere or if suitable measures were undertaken to hermetically seal the housing section 3, then the web could be brushed in any desired gaseous medium atmosphere.
  • the housing section 3 is filled with liquid to a level beneath the brush rollers 12, then the textile web, following each brushing operation, is drawn through the liquid bath, so that any dry rubbing of the web by the brushes 12 is counteracted.
  • the same purpose can also be achieved by a directed fluid stream or jet provided by the spray tubes or nozzles 15 (FIG. 2) impinging upon the brushing zone and by means of which there can be simultaneously attained an intensification of the cleaning action.
  • rollers 4 and/or 5 serving as the support means of the textile web are themselves constructed as brush rollers, as schematically illustrated by reference character 40 and 5a for one of the respective lower and upper rollers 4 and 5.
  • any suitable schematically illustrated coupling 26 could serve to operably connect the brushes 12 with a drive unit 25 for the web B.
  • a brush set or assembly as such has been formed by the cover member 9 with the brush rollers 12 and the drive mechanism 14 is accommodated as a movable unit to the usual dimensions of the treatment sections employed in the textile industry and can be arranged as a mountable unit at each such standard section.
  • a method for cleaning, especially the removal of undesired solid particles, from a wet-treated textile web, especially printed textile webs, continuously guided over rollers comprising the steps of guiding the textile web in a supported fashion along a predetermined path of travel, then at short spaced locations along the path of travel of the textile web guiding the textile web over its entire width past individual brushes at locations thereof at the face of the textile web opposite the supported locations, brushing the textile web as it moves past such individual brushes, to thus achieve by means of the individual brushes a separate brushing effect at the respective locations of the textile web contacted by said individual brushes, simultaneous with the brushing operation subjecting the textile web to laterally applied forces to spread the textile web across its width, and immediately following the brushing operation flushing the textile web.
  • step of flushing the textile web includes immersing the textile web into a treatment bath, and wherein the textile web is additionally brushed at least at one location in which such textile web is immersed in the liquid bath.
