' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARIA PETERS DE JONG, OF BRUSSELS, BELGUM.
CO RS ET.
SPECIFICA'ION forming part ofLetters Patent No. 375,990, ated Ianuary 3, 1888.
i I Application filed July 11, 1887. Serial No. 243,996v (No model.)
To aZZ witam it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARIA. PEETERS DE JONGE, of Brussels, in the Kingdom of Belgium, stay-maker, have invented new and useful Improvements in Elastio Stays, for which no patenthas been obtained inanyoountry, and of which the following is aspeeification.
The elastic stays hereinafter described dis- I tinguish themselves'from all others hitherto lrepresents a perspective view of my iinproved corset or elastic Stays. These stays are composed of a series of whalebones,A, as ordinary stays; but instead of these whalebones being Aconfined in sheaths formed in ordinary compact cloth, and little or not extensible, I confine them in sheaths separated from one another and connected by elastie straps B, disposed atiright angles withv the sheaths, and leaving a certain space between them, so as to constitute a regular framework. These stays are made as ordinary stays, laced behind. They are hooked before, in the well-known manner. The whalebones are disposed at will. At the height of the waist is a non elastie belt, O, intended to press the wust, and hooked in any convenient manner.
A simple inspeotion of the annexed drawing shows clearly the nature of the invention; and it is easily understood that the stays, which, besides the belt, are quite elastic in all their parts, must applythemselves exactly to the body and support it'without oompressing it, as is generally the case with ordinary Stays; i
Having thus fully described my said invention and in what mannerthe same hasto beperforined, What I claiin is- A skeleton Gorset consisting of series of vertioal separated sheat-hs A, surrounding the body, having whalebones confined therein, a
broad non-elastio waistband, G, surrounding the body, and series of horizontal separated elastio bands,B,surronnding the body beneath and above the waistband, substantially as de scribed and shown.
In witness whereof I have hereunto sctniy hand this 26th day of June, 1887.
MARIA PEETERS DE JONGE.
