CROZIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Knoxville, in the county of Knox and State of Tennessee, have invented new and use fnl Improvements in Distributing-Gases, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a distributing case for letters for use in post-offices; and it con sists in the construction and arrangement of the parts of the same, which will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

The object of my invention is to provide rt-ady means whereby letters may be distributed for delivery by carriers or for sectional delivery,whereby the distributers to boxes may obtain their mail apportioned to them without disturbing the distributer, and to economize space in front of the said distributer. I attain this object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a front view ofmy improved distributing-case. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sec tion thereof. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line so as of Fig. 3.

The distributing-case is constructed with a suitable frame mounted upon suitable supports, as shown in the drawings. Upon the upper part of the frame A, and in convenient proximity to the depressed distributingtable A, a series of openings are formed, which register with a series of chutes, C O, which in turn engage with drawers a a, situated in the front partofthe case, as shownin Fig, 1. Any number of these drawers a can be constructed as may be desired, being arranged separate and apart from each other, and each having an independent chute, a. and as many thereof may be arranged in con-' nection with each cabinet or case as may be desired. The divisional partitionsare hinged at the point F, so that they may be adjusted to increase the size of their throats, and are held in position by suitablelatches, E. Above the openings a and a a series of pigeon-holes, a are arranged on each side of the case for any purpose which may be desired in the dis tribution of the mail, and on the opposite side of the case a like series of pigeon holes a are formed.

By the use of my improved device mail matter may be rapidly distributed into the several carriers boxes, and obtained by the our riers therefrom without disturbing the dis tributcr. By the construction of the plates the section mail can be separated and distributed at the same time that the carriers mail is being distributed, with a saving in time and labor.

By the use of my improved device mails are advantageously handled and distributed, time and labor saved, and the device being simple in its construction and cheaply manufactured is rendered useful in connection with both small and large post-office deliveries.

The advantage in the use of my improvement is the economy in space and necessarily the economy in labor, for the reason that it enables the distributer to distribute to the same number of carriers and sections without moving so often or raising his eyes from the letters being distributed. By this means a distribution can be made to about three times as many carriers and sections in a given time as has heretofore been accomplished.

The novelty and utility of my improved device being obviously apparent, it is unnecessary to further enlarge upon the same herein.

Having thus described my invention, I clai1n- 1. Adistributing-case consisting ofthe drawers a, independently arranged, and having individual chutes with openings a, and the drawers B, similarly arranged, but opposite to the drawers a, substantially as described.

2. A distributing-case consisting of the draw" KOO ers a, havingthe chutes G, the partitions of which are adapted to be adjusted and increase the size of the said chute, the drawers B, and the pigeon-holes arranged in the upper part of the case, substantially as described.

3. A distributing-case consisting of the series of drawers a, having the chutes G hinged at the points F, and the latches E, substantially as described.

4. A distributing-case consisting of the drawers 0, having the individual adjustable chutes G, the drawers B, having the chutes of similar construction to the chutes O, the depressed table A, the pigeon-holes a and the pigeonholes a, arranged on the reverse side of the case to the pigeon-holes (1 substantially as described.

5. A distributing-case having a series ofdrawers and a series of independentl y-arran ged individual chutes for said drawers, as set Forth.

6. A distributingcase having a series of drawers andaseries ofindependently-arranged individual chutes, the partitions of which are adjustable for the purpose of increasing the size of said chutes, as set forth.

7. A distributingcase consisting of the table A, the separate series of drawers a B, arranged on opposite sides, the independently-arranged and individual chutes O,'for the drawers a B, which chutes open on opposite sides of the case, and the pigeon-holes a a in the upper part of the case above the table A, as set forth.
