UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES C. MOOALLMAN AND WVILLIAM A. HUIOHINSON, OF DOVESVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA.
HAME ATTACHMENT.
EPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 374,983, dated December 20, 1887.
Application filed April 25, 1887. Serial No. 236,109. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES C. ll/ICCALLMAN and WILLIAM A. HUTOHINSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Dovesville, in the county of Darlington and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harrie-Connections; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form apartof this specification.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 of the dral ings is a perspective View of our invention; Fig. 2, a detail plan view of the hook, and Fig. 3 a similar view of the hame-plate.
In the drawings, A represents our harnehook, having the broad shank a rabbeted at a, and B the ha1ne-plate,which is provided with the integral strip I), raised above the plate a little more than the thickness of the shank a, but less so than the part-a"', so that the book A may be slid back and removed, while it cannot come out in front on account of the rabbet or shoulder a. The plate B has four holes, b,by which it may be screwed or otherwise fastened to the harne, which is generally made of wood, while the hook has a downward right-angled bend, a to prevent the trace from coming out. It will thus be seen that the hook, which is often broken or wears out, can be readily removed and replaced by anew one. If desired, a small spring may be placed on the hame and under the slots of plate B; but it is not necessary to the Working of our invention. 40
Our invention dispenses entirely with the staple usually employed, the same being passed through the hame and clinched on the inside. In taking out the staple, which weakens the hame, the latter is torn and generally broken.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
The hereindescribcd improvement in hameattachments, consisting of the hook A, having the shoulder a on its shank, and the plate B, having the raised strip 12', substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereofwe affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES o. MGGALLMAN. WILLIAM A. HUTGHINSON.
