HAMEI Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1915.
Application filed liebruary; 12, 1915. Serial 0. 7,821.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHN M. PEnrLEs, a citizen of the 'United States, residing at Shawneetown, in the county of Gallatin'and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in I-Iames, of which'the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hames, and it has A further object of the invention is to provide a simple and improved construction whereby the connecting hook may be adj ust ably connected with thehame.
With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the in vention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction andn'ovel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited,
but that changes alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing,Figure 1 is a front view of a hame constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective detail view showing the housing detached. Fig. 5 is a front view showing a modified form of the housing. Fig. 6 is a detail front View showing a portion of the hame and illustrating a modification. Fig. 7 is a detail view in elevation of a reversible tug clip used in connection with the invention.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference.
The hame 15 which is constructed in the customary manner of wood is provided with a metallic reinforcing strip 16 at one side thereof, a plurality of loop-holes 17 for the upper hame strap being formed adjacent said reinforcing strip. ()n the front face of the hame is mounted a housing 18 which is of approximately V-shaped cross section presenting t'wo inclined faces 19, 19 separated by a ridge portion or rib 20 which may be regarded as constituting the staple with which the draft member is connected. One side face 19 is provided with spaced apertures 21.; the other side face 19 which is adjacent to the outer edge of the hame is provided with a longitudinal slot 20. adjacent to the ridge portion 20, said face being also provided with notches 21 which are disposed in registry with the apertures 21. The housing is provided at its upper and lower ends withterminal lugs22 for the passage of fastening members, such as rivets 23, whereby the housing is secured on the front face of the hame. A'spring plate 24 is clamped or otherwise secured between the side wall of the casing and the front face of the hame, said spring plate extending upwardly in the direction of the ridge portion or rib of the housing. The inclined side walls of the housing are provided at their lower ends with notches or recesses 25 for the accommodation of the breast ring 26. A loop 27 for the hame strap is provided at the lower end of the hame.
The connecting hook may be described as consisting of a. body portion 28 from which the hame engaging hook or hooks 29 extend in one direction, while in the opposite direction extend the trace engaging hook or hooks 30 which are of unequal length and are equipped with spring-actuated snaps 31. The hooks 29 are adapted to engage the notches :21 adjacent to the slot 20 in the face 19 of the housing and also the apertures 21 in the face 19, thus engaging the rib or staple portion 20 with which the hooks are held in intimate engagement by the action of a spring 24. It will be readily seen that by partly turning the hooks about the axis of the ridge portion 20, the points of the hooks will engage the slot 20, and the connecting device may thus be shifted upwardlv or downwardly without detaching it from the housing, after which the said connecting device is turned back until the shank portions of the hook engage some of the notches 21.
In Fig. 5 of the drawing there is shown a tures 21 in the face 19. The operation of this device is substantially as above described, except that in order to change the position of;the.connectingdevice it is nec-" essary to detach the hooks 29 thereof from engagement with the housing. J
In Fig. 6 has been illustrated a modification under which the connecting device is permanently .con'nectedfwith the hame by means of a staple or keeper 33, the lower end OfWllIlCll has an eye for the accommodation of the breast ring 261 I In Fig. 7 is shown the end of a trace 34 with Rvhich a ring or link 35 is connected by means of a clip 36, the latter being secured in the trace by rivets 37. This constitutes a simple means whereby the trace may be connected with one of the snap hooks of the connecting device.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as neW,is: I p
A :haine, a housing mounted on the front face thereof and having inclined sidefaces and a central rib portion constituting an elongated staple, one of the side faces being provided With apertures and the-other side face'being provided with a longitudinal slot adjacent to the central rib and'With notches registering With the apertures in the first mentioned side faces, and an inclined spring plate clamped between the housing Copies of this patent may be obtained for tnres in the inclined side faces of the hooks,
and a pair of snap hooks of unequal length extending in the opposite direction.
2. A hame, a housing mounted on the front-face thereof and having inclined side faces and a central rib portion constituting an elongated staple, one of thesideifacesfj being provided with apertures and the other 7 side face'being provided'with a longitudi nal slot adjacent to thecentral rib and With notches registering with the apertures in the first mentioned side face,'said sidefaces being also provided attheir lower ends With notchesor recesses and a breast ring mounted in'said recesses, and an inclined spring;
plate clamped between the housing and the front face of the hame, in combination With a connecting memb'er comprising a body.
portion-having a pair of hooks extending in one direction to engage the apertures in the inclinedside faces of the hooks,-and a pair I of snap hooks of unequal length extending in the opposite direction; In testimony whereof I in presence of tvvo Witnesses.
