EDGAR K. HAYNES, OF BOSTON, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO GEORGE FROST, GEORGE H. PHELPS, AND GEORGE A. FROST, ALL OF NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
SPRING CUFF-BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 373,401, dated November 15, 1887.
Application filed February 25, 1887. Serial No. 228,829. (No model.)
To all 2071,0122 it may concern.- at one end by a loop, (d, the said loop acting 50 Be it known that I, EDGAR K. HAYNES, of as aspring to normally keep the legs aaapart. The cuff is then inserted in the 75 justed, according to the material of the dress sleeve, and when in the desired position the with which it is to be used, to hold the cuff in pressure upon the cuff is released and the place without forming an objectionable outspring-holder expands, thus forcing outward 3o ward bulge on the sleeve or in other manner or expanding that part of the cuff within the marring or destroying the symmetry of the sleeve, the outward pressure of the cuff on 80 arm. the inside of the sleeve being sufficient to se- My invention therefore consists, essentially, curely maintain the cuff in the desired posiof a spring cuff-holder provided at its ends tion within the sleeve. \Vhen the cuff has y with buttons to engage button-holes of the been pressed with sufficient force against the cuff, substantially as will be set forth. sleeve to firmly maintain it in position, the 8 Other features of my invention will be link or chain 1), as shown, may be made to enpointed out in the claims at the end of this gage a corrugation or bend, If, in the leg a, to specification. look, as it were, the position of the legs a a, Figure 1 shows a cuff provided with one thereby preventingsuch expansion of the cuff form of myimproved cuff-holder. Fig.2shows as to form an objectionable bulge in the sleeve. 0 the cud-holder detached; Fig. 3, a modified Referring to Fig. 5, I have shown the springform of cuff-holder. Fig.4 shows a cuff proholder as a single wire, (I, bent to form subvided with yet another modified form of cuffstantially a semicircle, it having at each end holder, and Fig. 5 is a view of the cuff-holder a button, I), to enter the button-holes c c of the shown in Fig. 4. cuff. Myimproved spring cuffholder may be used with garments made of very fine texture without in the least disfiguring the arm.
I claim- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a cuffholder consisting of a spring bent into an approximately U shape, combined with a button attached to each end thereof, substantially as described.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, a spring cuff-holder comprising the legs a a, adapted to be inserted through holes in the cuff, and having a loop, a adapted to engage the stem or stud of a cuff-button, to operate substantially as described. 1
3. As an improved article of manufacture,
a spring cuff-holder comprising the legs a a,
