MICHAEL J. LAWSON DOOR LOCK FIELD OF THE INVENTION My invention is directed toward a safety lock for doors which requires no installation, can be removed when not in use and can be operated without keys, combination dials and the like.
SUMMARY My lock comprises a vertical plate with a central hole and a flange at the inner horizontally extending end thereof. A bolt has a threaded portion extending through the hole. A cylinder having an axial bore is disposed in such manner that the portion extends threadedly into the bore.
With a door closed in a frame having a striker plate with an opening, the plate extends between the frame and door outward to the inside surface of door and frame, the tip extending through the opening in the striker plate. The bolt and cylinder are screwed together. An enlarged sleeve on the cylinder then bears against the door while another enlarged sleeve on the bolt bears against the frame. With the bolt and cylinder finger tight the enlarged cylinder sleeve 28 bears against the door and the door cannot be opened from the outside. It cannot be opened from the inside until the cylinder and bolt are unscrewed and separated.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective of my invention; and
FIG. 2 is a cross section showing my invention in use.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1-2, my invention is a safety lock for doors which requires no installation and which can be operated without keys, combination dials and the lime.
A horizontally extending plate with a central hole 12 has an outer flange 14 and a somewhat larger inner flange 16. A threaded bolt 18 extends through a cylindrical sleeve 20 with a remote head 22. The threaded portion 24 of reduced cross section extends through hole 12 and is threadedly engaged in an axial bore 25 of a cylinder 26 disposed in an enlarged sleeve 28. The remote end of cylinder 26 and head 22 are each connected by corresponding chains 30 and 32 to a common connector 34 which in turn is mounted on a ring 36 extending through a hole in tip 26.
In use, the outer flange 14 is disposed in an opening 40 in latch plate 42 of door frame 44 with the plate 10 extending horizontally toward the inside of the frame between the frame and door 46. With the bolt tightened in place by hand into the cylinder, the enlarged sleeve 28 on the cylinder 26 bears against the door 46, while the other enlarged sleeve 20 on the bolt 18 bears against the frame 44. Thus the door cannot be opened from the outside. The lock can be manually disassembled for disconnection.
The chains and ring enable all parts to be held together whether or not the lock is in use whereby parts will not be lost. An adapter 48 can receive portion 24 for use for odd make doors.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, such is not to be considered as limiting its actual scope.
Having thus described this invention, what is asserted as new is:
1. A safety lock comprising: 7
a horizontally extending vertical plate with a central hole;
a threaded bolt having a threaded portion extending through said hole;
a cylinder having an axial threaded bore in which said threaded portion is disposable;
an enlarged sleeve surrounding said bolt at a position intermediate the ends; and
another enlarged sleeve surrounding said cylinder at a position intermediate the ends.
2. A lock as set forth in claim 1, as mounted on the inside of a door having a frame, said plate having an outer flange engaging said frame, said sleeve or said bolt bearing against said frame, and said sleeve on said cylinder bearing against the door.
3. A lock as set forth in claim 1 wherein said plate has a horizontally extending inside flange and further including means connecting said cylinder and bolt to the inside flange.
4. A lock as set forth in claim 3 wherein said means includes a first chain connected to the end of the cylinder remote from the plate and a second chain connected to the end of the bolt remote from the plate.
5. A lock as set forth in claim 4 wherein the means includes a ring having a connector secured to both chains and extending through a hole in the lower tip.

Claims (5)

1. A safety lock comprising: A HORIZONTALLY EXTENDING VERTICAL PLATE WITH A CENTRAL HOLE; A THREADED BOLT HAVING A THREADED PORTION EXTENDING THROUGH SAID HOLE; A CYLINDER HAVING AN AXIAL THREADED BORE IN WHICH SAID THREADED PORTION IS DISPOSABLE; AN ENLARGED SLEEVE SURROUNDING SAID BOLT AT A POSITION INTERMEDIATE THE ENDS; AND ANOTHER ENLARGED SLEEVE SURROUNDING SAID CYLINDER AT A POSITION INTERMEDIATE THE ENDS.
