This device includes a strip of metal with an asbestos sheet secured within the fold thereof and a washer of asbestos insulates the handle from the metal of the device when it is secured to the bolt at the lower portion of the handle of the percolator.
1 Claim, 5 Drawing Figures HEAT SHIELD This invention relates to devices for protection against the heat of a stove flame.
lt is therefore the primary purpose of this invention to provide a heat shield which will be attached to the lower portion of a handle of a percolator or the like in order to prevent damage to the handle from the flames of a stove.
Another object of this invention is to provide a heat shield device which will be made of an elongated metal strip which is folded to an L-shaped configuration so that it extends outwards and underneath the handle of the percolator in order to protect the handle from the heat of the stove flames.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of the type described which will have an asbestos strip sandwiched between the folded portions of the strip and a washer of asbestos material will insulate the handle of the percolator from the metal strip of the device.
A further object of this invention is to provide a heat shield which will be held in place upon the outer periphery of the percolator by means of the bolt that is carried within the lower extremity of the handle of the percolator.
Other objects are to provide a heat shield for coffee percolators and the like which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side view of the present invention shown installed upon a percolator which is shown in elevation, the handle of the percolator being shown partly broken away for the sake of clarity;
FIG. 2 is a cross sectional view taken along the line 22 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a plan view of the metallic strip shown prior to having holes punched therein and is also shown prior to being bent to the configuration shown in FIG. 1 of the drawing;
FIG. 4 is an enlarged side view of the present invention shown in section and removed from the percolator shown in FIG. 1; and
FIG. 5 is a plan view of the asbestos washer shown removed from FIG. 1 and is also shown enlarged.
According to this invention, a heat shield 10 for a percolator is shown to include a metallic strip 11 which is bent to form a leg portion 12 and a leg portion 13, the shape being L in configuration. An asbestos strip 14 is carried between leg portion 12 and leg portion 13 of device 10 and an opening therethrough allows for the receiving of a bolt which will hereinafter be described.
An asbestos washer 16 receives the lower bolt 17 of the percolator 18 and the bolt 17 is also received within the opening 15 of the leg portion 12 of device 10 in order to secure device 10 to handle 19 of percolator 18.
In order to install device 10, the lower bolt 17 is removed from handle 19 and the top bolt 20 is loosened, after which the shield 10 is placed between the handle 19 and the percolator 18. The lower bolt 17 is then reinserted and both bolts 17 and 20 are tightened in order to secure handle 19 firmly to percolator 18.
It shall also be noted that the asbestos washer 16 serves to prevent heat from device 10 from transferring to handle 19 and the heat shield 10 when in place, thus prevents the flames from the stove from damaging the handle 19 by the device 10 deflecting the heat therefrom.
What I claim is:
l. A heat shield device for coffee percolators and the like, comprising an elongated metal strip which serves as deflector means for preventing the heat of the stove from being carried to the handle and destroying the handle, said metal strip having a transverse bend across an intermediate portion thereof so to form a pair of tongues, one of which is longer than the other, said tongues being parallel and spaced apart, a transverse common bend across an intermediate portion of both said tongues so that each said tongue is of an L-shape, an L-shaped space between said tongues, an asbestos strip being fitted into said L-shaped space so to likewise assume an L-shape, said tongues and asbestos each accordingly having a leg adjacent said 180 bend and having a transverse opening receiving a mounting screw of said handle, the other leg of said L-shaped tongues and asbestos extending horizontally below said handle, and an extending end of the longer of said tongues being rounded, said extending end being located on a lower side of said horizontal leg.

Claims (1)
