JEWEL'CASE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 372,345, dated November 1, 1.887. v Application filed January 24,1887. Serial No. 225,306. (No model) To aZZ whom it may concern: V Be it known that we, SOLOMON VALFER an LAzARUs WEIL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Jewel-Oase, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Ourinvention relates to an improvement in jewel-cases, and has for its object to provide a in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case, illustrating the upper portion of the body as hinged upon itself to fold down upon each side; and Fig. 2 is a perspective View illustrating but one upper side of the body folded down.

The box A of the case, which may be of any desired shape, is divided into two sections-a lower more or less rectangular portion, B, pro vided with an aperture, 1), adapted to hold an article of jewelry, and an upper hinged section, B.

The upper section consists of two wings, O 0, attached centrally at their lower and outer edges by a metal. hinge, D, to the outer and upper side edges of the lower body portion, B, the downward limit of the said wings being controlled by an auxiliary flexible hinge, D, of silk, plush, cloth, or similar material, secured to the upper inner side edges of the said lower body portion, B, and to the inner and lower' edges of the wings, the flexible hinges D being adapted to cover and conceal the aforesaid metal hinges D.

Centrally upon the upper surface of one wing O a hinged apertured catch, 01, is secured, adapted to engage a pin, d, upon the opposite wing 0, whereby when the said wings are carried to their vertical or normal position their inner edges are held in close contact. When the wings are thus vertically positioned, their outer sides and edges are in the same plane with the equivalent sides and edges of thelower body portion, B.

A flexible handle, E, is attached to each end of the lower body portion centrally the same,

which handle, extending upward over the wings, is purposed for convenience in transporting the case, and also as an ornamentation.

The body A is in every instance provided with a flat lower edge, e, centrally to which edge a pyramidal base, F, is secured, adapted as a support for the case.

The entire body and base are preferably covered with plush, and but one wing C may be folded down to display the contents of the case, as shown in Fig. 2; but if an elaborate display, or a display from all sides, is desired, the two wings may be carried down to ahorizontal position at right angles to the lower body portion, B, as shown in Fig. 1.

Having thus fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1.
