GUNSTOCKJ SPECIFICATION forming To all whom it may concern.-.

Be it known that I, ALFRED T. HIBBARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincoin, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gunstocks; and I do her y declare the following to be a full, clear,

and exact description f the invention, such as will enable others skilledjn the art to which to it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in gunstocks; and it consists in constructing the stock of a gun in two parts and uniting them in an adjustable joint, ashereinafter described;

and the object of my invention is to provide means whereby the stock may be lowered or dropped relatively to the barrel or barrels of the gun, as may be desired.

The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.

The letter A, Fig. 1, represents a gunstock, which is' divided into two parts, B and G.

The letter D, Fig. 2, (shown in detail in Fig. 3.) represents a socket provided with a shoulder, D, the arm E extending backward from 33 the upper portion of the socket D, and the 1 arm Fextending backward from thelower portion of the socket D.

The part B of the stock is formed with grooves upon its fore end, upper and lower for the reception of the socket-shoulder D' andarms E and F of the socket D. The socket D is firmly fastened to the part B of the stock by means of the screws or bolts e and f, or other ordinary device. The letter (1, Fig. 3, represents a screw-hole in the socket D for the reception of the screw G, and the letter (1 represents screw-holes for the reception of the set-screw g.

The letter H, Fig. 2, (shown in detail, Fig. 4,) represents a shoulder or cap provided with a shoulder, H, the arm I, extending forward from the lower portion of the cap H, and the part of Letters Patent No. 371,886, dated October Application filed February 19, 1887. Serial No. 25285227. (No model-l 3 is a detailed view in 'ness and rust,'and also giving arm J, extending backward from the upper portion of the cap H.

The. part 0 of the stock is formed with grooves upon its rear end, lower and upper sides, for the reception of the shoulder H and arms I and J of the cap H. The cap H is firmlyfastened to the part 0 of the stock by means of thejscrews or bolts i and j, or other ordinary device.

inthe cap H for the reception of the screw G, and the letter h represents screw-holes for the reception of the set-screw g. The cap H is suitably curved D, and thusform an adjust-able joint. The screw-hole d in the socket D is made larger than the corresponding screw-hole, h, in the shoulderH, forthe purpose of allowing an upward and downward movement in the joint, as may be desired. The screw-holes d in the socket D and h in the cap H are so relatively arranged that there will be in the socket D-but one screw hole, which in any given position will have any corresponding screw-hole in the cap H for the reception of set-screw g.

The method of using my improvement is as,

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of the part 0 of the gunthe screws by stantially as described.
