C. 0. SPURR. BICYCLE HANDLE.
No. 569,436. Patented 0611.l 13, 1896.
WWNEEEEE- .IN/ENTDFY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES O. SPURR, OF BROCKTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
BICYCLE-HAN D LE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,436, dated October 13, 1896.
Application filed February 4:, 1896, Serial No. 578,026. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES O. SPURR, of Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bicycle-Handles, of which the following is a specication.
The object of my invention is to provide for the arms to which the handles are attached a universal joint, so that they may readily be turned in any direction and at the same time be maintained firmly and securely in position. I accomplish this result by providing` the arm to which each handle is attached With a spherical end, and so connecting it with the standard into which it iits as to accomplish the desired result.
I have shown in the drawings, in Figure l, aperspective view of my handles, and in Fig. 2 a sectional elevation on the line 2 2, Fig. l.
ct a are the handles, With arms attached thereto.
d a are the spherical ends of the handles fitting inside of the cap b, which screws onto the standard c and into and against the piece d.
e is a regulating-screw provided with a conical end e', by means of which the movement of the spherical ends ct of the handles may be suitably adjusted. It will readily be seen that in this Way a joint is obtained which Will permit the movement of the bicycle-handles in any desired direction, but which at the same time can be completely regulated by means of the regulating-screw.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a bicycle, the combination of the handles a, a, provided with the spherical ends a ct; the caps b, b; bearing-pieces d, d; and regulating-screw c, provided With conical end e; substantially as, and for the purpose above described.
