EXPLODING Tov.
EPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,736, dated August 23, 18187.
-A.pplieation filed June 8, 1887.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LJAMES SMITH,0f Brooklyn, (Green Point,) in the county of Kings, State of New York, have invented eertain new and useful Improvements in Exploding Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates toan improved exploding toy for children, by which, by the explosion of a paper cap, a feather-mounted cap is thrown up into the air at the time of explosion, so as to give amusement, besides making a noise; and the invention consists of an exploding toy composed of a socket-shaped anvil provided with a hole fora string, and adetachable and feathered hammer fitting into the same and provided with a flange at its upper end.
- In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved exploding toy, showing it in the act of explosion. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of the same, drawn on a larger scale; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the detachable hammer on the line x m, Fig. 2.
fits in the anvil a, and is provided with a flange, b, at the upper end, and with one or more feathers or vanes, c, that are attached equidista'ntly from the center of the same in the nature of a shuttle-cock. .The paper cap Serial No. 240,602. (No model.)
to be exploded is inserted into the socket of the anvil a and the hammer I) placed in position thereon. By dropping the toy the paper cap is exploded, the force of the explosion throwing the hammer into the air, so that,be-
sides the noise caused by the explosion of the cap, the explosion throws up the feathered hammer, to the great enjoyment of children. A very amusing toy is thus provided that can be handled without the least danger of harm.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An exploding toy consisting of asocketshaped anvil and a feathered detachable hammer fitting into the anvil, substantiall y as set forth.
2. An exploding toy consisting of a socketshaped anvil and a flanged detachable hanimer fitting into the same, the cap being provided with one or more feathers, substantially as set forth.
3. An exploding toy consisting of a socket shaped anvil having a transverse hole for attaching a string, and a detachable and feathered hammer having a flange at the upper end, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
