PLOW ATTAci-i wi ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,713, dated August 23, 1887.
Application filed August 19, 1886. Serial No. 211,293. (No model.)
UTo all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, FRANK TRABUE GIB- SON, acitizen of the United States, residing at Bowling Green, in the county of Warren and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in PlowV Attachments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or gures of reference marked thereon, which forni a part of this specification. Y
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a plan View. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line xm,Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a similar section showing a modification. Fig. 5 is a diagram illustrating, on a large scale, thejoint I,located in such relation to the angle a that the bar G is self'adjusting.
. My invention relates to plow attachments of the class known as plow-fenders, and itA consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates an ordinary doubleshovel plow having, preferably, two beams, B C, converging from their rear to their front ends, and having secured between their front ends the clevis D.
E and F designate the plow-handles, and G H are the plow-points.
Gdesignates an arm or lever which is pointed at its front end, and is pivotcd or fulcrumed near its front end by a bolt, I, secured in bearings K K clipped to the plow-beams. The lever G is bent outwardly between its ends and extends back a little beyond the curve in the Vfront plow-standard, andis provided on its inner face at'its rear end with ashare or blade, L, having its front edge rounded from below upward.
The fender, being pivotcd near its front end,
is rendered self-adjusting, so that it will accommodate .itself to the unevenness of the ground. The bearing K, intermediate of the two plow-beams, may be taken out, if desired, and the outer bar, K, and the angle-iron M only may be used to attach the arm or lever G to the plow.
It is obvious that the axis of motion of the bar Gl should coincide with a plane at right angles to the bar A, intersecting the posterior angle a of the upper .plain surface of the jointed end of said bar; or said axis, to wit, the bolt I, maybe in rear of said angle a, but not in front of it.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with a plow, of a self-adjusting arm having a pointed forward end,the upper edge of which is adapted to bear squarely against the lower edge of the beam A, the
shield L, secured to the rear end of said arm, a clip, and a transverse pivotal bolt, I, adapted to allow articulation of said arm, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK TRABUE GIBSON. Witnesses:
JNO. M. WILKINs, J No. M. GOODWIN.
