VAPOR-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 368,303, dated August 16, 1887.
Application filed July 3, 1886. Serial No. 207,014.

Be it known that I, WILLIAM 0. NORTH, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ovens for Vapor-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the peculiar con struction and adaptation of the door to an oven for vapor-stoves, whereby greater convenience in managing and operating both the oven and the door are obtained.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an oven having my improved door attached and showing same closed. Fig. 2 is a similar perspective view showing door open and lying on the top of the oven. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of an oven on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 isat'ront elevation of an oven, showing the door attached to slide horizontally.
A represents an oven commonly used on vapor stoves. On two sides of the door-opening I attach metal guides B B. O is a door made to slide within said guides for closing the said dooropening.
In Figs. 1 and 2 the door is seen hinged to a narrow sliding strip, D, which, when the door is open, allows the door to fall over and lie down on the top of the oven. To the said strip D are attached two guide-arms, E E, which ride along the inside edges of the guide-pieces B B and are designed to prevent one end of the strip moving along in the guides faster than the other, and thereby obviate the liability of the strip binding or sticking in the guides when being slid therein. The lower ends of the guides B B are closed, and thus form a stop for the strip to rest against and prevent the strip and door sliding down below the dooropening. The strip is also provided with a stop or stops, S, at the middle or near the ends, which strike against the upper side of the dooropening to prevent the door and strip being drawn out of the guides B B when the door is drawn up for opening the oven.

I represent this plan to show that myimprovements may be applied in a horizontal position on the oven, and thus avoid a swinging door; but the vertically sliding door is preferable, because whenever the door has to be partially opened for the purpose ot'inspecting the interior, while baking or roasting is going on. in the old style of swinging door, nearly all the heat is liable to escape, while with my vertically-sliding door onlya small space at the lower part of the door-opening need be opened for that purpose, and thereby obviate the liability of letting much heat escape. In constructing and applying my improvements no change in the construction of the oven is necessary, nor can any part be dispensed with, except the narrow stri p over the door-opening, which may be omitted.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s'- 1. In an oven forvapor-stoves, the combination, with the door-opening provided on two of its sides with guides B B, of a door, O, having a strip hinged thereto, both the door and strip sliding in the said guides, substantially as desrribed.
2. In an oven for vapor-stoves, the combina tion, with the door-opening provided with guides on two of its sides, of a door having the guide-arms E E, sliding along the inner edges of the guides B B in the movements of the door in opening and shutting the oven, substantially as specified.
8. In an oven for vapor stoves, the combination, with the door'opening provided with the guides B B on two of its sides, of a door, O, having a strip, D, hinged thereto and provided with the guide arms E E, and also having a stop or stops, S, whereby the door and strip are prevented from being drawn clear out, substantially as described.
