HAME-TUG BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,011, dated August 9, 1887.
Application filed March 28, 1887.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES RozELL, of Great Bend, in the county of Barton and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Hame-Tug Buckle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my new and improved hame-tug buckle, showing a part of the hametng, the trace, and the back and belly band billet. Fig. 2 is aside elevation of the same,showing the back-band billet in section, and Fig. 3 is a broken front elevation of the buckle without straps. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the buckle.
Theinvent-ion will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
My new hame-tng buckle A is cast in one piece and in box-form,with a central passage, a, for the trace B and the two side passages, b b, for the back-pad billet O. The bridge-piece c is formed in the center with the stud d, which serves as a buckle-tongue for attaching the buckle to the billet G, the end of the billet being first passed through the passsge b, then over the bridge 0, and then down through the passage 1), the stud d being inserted in one or the other of the holes in the billet. The passages b I) are curved somewhat, as shown clearly in Fig. 3, so that the billet will be held by the bars 60 in close contact with the outer surface of the bridge 0, and the main body and the lower end of the billet held in line with the lower surface of the buckle. At the rear edge of the bridge-pieces c is formed the loop f, to receive the side strap of the harness,

and at the lower or inner surface of the buckle is formed the loop 9, on which is formed the stud h, which serves as a buckletongue to hold the trace B, andin line with the front edge of the bridge 0 is formed the bar i, as shown clearly in Fig. 4. Between the loop 9 and bari is placed the loop D, as shown clearly in Fig. 2. This loop is attached to the hametug E, and the trace B passes through it and is then engaged with the stud h, so that in this manner the trace and hame-tug are fastened securely together, as will be understood from Figs. 1 and 2.
The billet C, by being passed through the buckle A, not only serves to attach thebuckle to the harness, but its lower end serves also as a billet, to which the belly-band of the harness may be buckled, thus effecting a saving in stock and in the labor of attaching a separate billet to the side buckle, and avoids the necessity of a separate buckle for the billet G, and by not folding this billet its durability is greatly increased.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an improved article of manufacture, the hametug buckle herein described, formed with the bridge 0 and end passages, b b, and a stud, d, projecting from the upper surface of the bridge 0, substantially as described.
2. The buckle A, formed with the bridge 0, stud d, passages b l), cross-bar i, and loop 9, having stud 71, substantially as and for the purposes described.
