H. J. BREWER.
BINDING CLAMP FOR BATTERY ELECTRODES.
No. 367,956. Patented Aug. 9, 1887.

UNITED STATES HORATIO J. BREWER,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BINDING-CLAMP FOR BATTERY-ELECTRODES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,956, dated August 9, 1887,
Application filed October 22, 1886.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORATIO J. BREWER, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved .a battery-electrode,and of a set-screw screw ing in the top plate of the said holder and firmly securing the said holder to the battery-- electrode, and also holding the wire in a firm contact with the battery-electrode.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-sectionot the. same on the line at a: of Fig. 1.; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the holder.
The clamp A consists of the holder B and the set-screw G. The holder Bis provided with the sides D and E, which are inclined toward each other and are connected on top by the top plate, F. A set-screw, 0, screws in the center of the top plate, F.
The battery-electrode G, which is used in connection with my clamp A, is provided on its upper end with the two outwardly-flaring sides H H, which have the same angle of inclination as the sides D and E of the holder B, which thus fits over the said sides H of the battery-electrode, as shown in Fig. 1. I
t The clamp A is attached to the battery electrode G by slipping the holder B endwise over Serial No. 2l6,949. (No model.)
the sides H H of the battery-electrode G, after which the wire I, to be connected to the said battery-electrode G, is placed on the upper end of the battery-electrode, and the set-screw is turned downward so that the lower end of the set-screw comes firmly in contact with the battery-electrode G.
It will be seen that when the set-screw G is screwed tightly upon the wire I it exerts an upward pressure on the holder B, which is thus held tightly with its inclined sidesD and .E 011 the inclined sides H of the battery-electrode G.
It-will be seen that the clamp Ais simple in construction, easily attached and detached.
and at the same times causes a firm contact of v the wire I and the batteryelectrode G.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with a battery electrode having inclined sides, of a clamp consisting of a holder having inclined sides corresponding to the sides of the battery-electrode, and a set-screw screwing in the said holder, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, with a battery electrode, G, having the inclined sides H, of the clamp A, consisting of the holder B, having the inclined sides D and E, connected with each other by the top plate, F, and the set-screw C, screwing in the said top plate, F, substantially as shown and described.
3. The clamp A, consisting of the holder B, provided with the top plate, F, and theinclined sides D and E, and the set-screw O, screwing in the top plate, F, substantially as shown and described.
HORATIO J. BREWER.
