Description

H. A. PERSHING.
COMBINED PETIT LEDGER AND BLOTTBR.
No. 367,924. PatentedAug. 9, 188'?.
HENRY ALBERT PERSHING,
COMBlNED PETIT LE PATENT OFFICE.
or SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
DGER ANDV BLOTTER.
SPECIFICATION Vforming part of Letters Patent No, $67,924:,V dated August 9, 1887.
Application filed April l, 1887.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY ALBERT PERsH- ING, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of I'ndiana, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined PetitLed ger and Blotter; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and iigures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. Y
Like letters refer to the same partsthroughout the several views.
'This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in devices for the purpose of keeping the transient ortrivial accounts of merchants in alphabetical order in a systematic, compact., and convenient form for reference.
The invention is particularly designed as an improvement upon the device shown and described inthe PatentNo. 323,729, dated August 4, 1885.
In the accompanying drawings, which forma part of this specification, Figure l is a per! spective view of my improved ledger closed.
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the top cover thrown back. Fig. 3 is a similar view with the top thrown backend the tablets Vpartially ners, so that the said tablet may be removed when it has been filled up or when desired. The tablet consists of a quantity of blank Serial No. 233,271. (No model.)
leaves, bill-heads, or` the like, separated by blank leaves, each having a different letter of the alphabet, into nine separate parcels, each separating blank leaf' projecting below the billheads sufficiently to `expose the letters of the alphabet thereon, thus forming a marginal index.
F and G are similar tablets pivotally secured atl one corner only by the staple C, so that said tablets can be revolved on said staple when desired, as indicated in Fig. 3.
By this construction I provide a petit ledger in which the account of any one individual may be readily turned to, and if the account of the individual in question should happento be upon the second or third tablet, it can be reached by simply turning the first or the first and second tablets, as the case may be, upon the -piv'ot C, thus avoiding the necessity of opening thebook further, and ifoceasion should require the three tablets may be all displayed at the same time, which the construction of the Patent No. 323,729 prevents.
It is evident that, although I show and prefer to use threey tablets, the number may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention. y
Vhat I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-M The combination, with the covers A B, ileXible back a, connecting the same, and the tablet D, fixed! y secured to the inner face of one of said covers, of the staple C and a plurality `of tablets, indexedas described, and pivotally secured at one corner by said staple, substantially as described, and for the purpose specifled.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presenceof two witnesses.
HENRY ALBERT PEBSHING. Witnesses:
