Description

(No Model.) F. D. KIMBER.
LAMP BURNER.
Patented Aug. 9, 1887 W l/vvmrak fymm ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FRANK D. KIMBER, OF GORNING, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOE OF ONEHALF TO ISAIAH JOHNSTON, OF SAME PLACE.
LAMP-(BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,817, dated August 9, 1887. V
A Application filed February 15, 1887. Serial No. 227,655. (No model.)
To all wltom, it may concern:
Be it known that I. FRANK D. KIMBER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Corning, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates especially to devices for holding the chimney upon a la1np'-burner; to and it consists inthe novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more partieu-' larly described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side View of a lamp-burner em- :5 bodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a similar view thereof at a right angletoFig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a plan or top view thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
The letter A indicates the rim or chimneygalle'ry, B thescrew-neck, and O the cone of theburner, these parts being arranged in substantially the usual manner.
D E are the chimney-holding arms, 'which 2 3 are located diametrically opposite to each other upon the chimney-gallery A, one (D) being fixed to said gallery, and the other (E) being adjustable thereon in horizontal direction. Both the arms DE are shaped to conform to the lower part of the chimney that may be used upon the burner, and in the example shown they have straight upright shanks and outwardly-bent ends or extremities to engage with a globular chimney from an inward directionthat is to'say, when the adjustable arm E is set to a position corresponding with the fixed arm, as shown in Fig. 1. The adjustable arm E has its bearings in the chimney gallery A, together with yoke G, properly 40 secured thereto, it resting upon the gallery or upon the yoke, bymeans of a collar, 1', and to facilitate the adjustment of said arm it is provided at the lower end with a handle, J, be-
neath the gallery and which may be in one piece with the arm, the whole beingof wire.
For the purpose of locking. the adjustable arm E in a normal position, the chimney-gallery A is provided with a notch, 0, (see Fig. 2,) which is at one end of a downwardly-inclined edge, a, on said gallery, so that when the handle J is swung in the .direction of the notch it rides over said inclined edge and springs into the notch, thereby preservinga fixed position, it being only necessary to withdraw the handle from the notch in order to permit the adjustable arm to be set for disengaging the chimney. The locking-notch 0 should be in proper relative position to the shape of the adjustable arm E; and in order to limit the rearward motion of the handleJ the chimuey-gallery may be provided with a stop, .9, to arrest the handle.
It is evident that the arms D E may be arranged to engage the lamp-chimney from an outward direction and may be of any suitable shape to effect the desired purpose. \Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a lamp-burner, the combination ofa pair of arms, one fixed and the other adjustable hori-- zontally and provided with a handle on its lower end, and both shaped'to engage the interior of the lamp-chimney, a chimney-gallery having an inclined edge provided with a notch to receive said handle for locking the adj ustable arm in normal position, a yoke, G, carrying the arm E, and a collar, 3, on said arm, all substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described. 7 Signed at Corning, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, this cember, A.
