UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSSIAN A. CONANT, OF TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA.
FLOUR-PACKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,599, dated August 2, 1887.
Application filed January 27, 1887. Serial No. 225,654. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OSSIAN ACONDA Guerr- WELL CONANT, of Terre Haute, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Sack-Filling Spout, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to an attachment for the ordinary form of sack-aud-barrel filler, the object of the invention being to provide a means whereby the flour may be conveyed from the augentube to the sack, as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and specifieally pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views.
Figure 1 is a central sectional View of my improved saekfilling attachment, representing the same as arranged in connection with an auger-tube, which tube is partly broken away; and Fig. 2 is a View of a modified construction.
In construcliugsuch an apparatus as the one forming the subject-matter of this application, I provide a wide-mouthed tube, 10, which is provided with a means for attachment to the lower end of the auger-tube, which tube is made integral with a tube, 11, which projects outward from one side of the tube 10, the two tubes merging in gradual curves, the outer end. of the tube being bent somewhat downward, as shown at 12 in Fig. 1, or being left as indicated in Fig. 2, a rim, 18, being formed about the lower end of the tube. A slide or cut, 15, is arranged as indicated, passing through an opening formed in the upper portion of the tube 11.
Although any means for attaching the tube 10 to the augertube, which auger-tube is shown at.20, may be employed, I preferto provide the tube 10 with lugs 2, which pass through apertures, as 3, that are formed in the lower binding-hoop of the auger-tube, a slight turn being given the tube 10 after the lugs 2 have been passed above the lower binding'hoop ofthe auger-tube.
o the lower end of the tube 11 there is so cured a flexible tube, 16, that is preferably made of sacking, said tube 16 being bound to the tube 11 above the rim or flange 13.
XVith such a filler as has been described sacks may be readily and quickly filled, the
sacks being placed, as will be understood, be neath the lower bent end of the flexible tube 16, the flour being forced downward by the auger within the tube 20, which is thrown into and out of gear as may be required, the slide of the tube 11 being moved to the position in which it is shown in the drawings when it is desired to intercept the flow of flour.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A sackiilling spout for flourpackers, comprising the tube 10 11, having contracted outer end provided with the external flange or bead 13, the slide 15, the lugs 2 at the inner side of the upper end of said tube, and the flexible tube 16, secured at its upper end around the flange 13, substantially as set forth.
2. A flour-packer comprising the tube 20,
provided with flange or hoop having apertures 3, and the rotary anger, the integral tube 10 11, tapering to its outlet, the lugs 2 on the inner side of the upper end of the tube 10 to pass through the apertures 3 and engage the flange or hoop. the flange 13 around the contracted end of the tube 11, the slide 15, and the flexible tube 16, secured at the flange 13, substantially as set forth.
