REMINDER FOR RESERVOIRS OF VAPOR $TOVES. N0.-367,306. Patentgd July 26; 1887.

STAFFORD LIGHTBURNE, .13., on sr. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
REMINDER FOR RESERVOIRS OF VAPOR- STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,306 dated July 26, 1887.
Application filed May 24, 1886. Serial No. 203,187. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: 7 Be it k nown that I, STAFFORD LIGHTBURNE,
Jr., of the city of St. Louis, in the State of- Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvementin Reminders for Reservoirs of Vapor-Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, refer ence being had tothe accompanying drawings forming part of' this specification, and in which- Figure his a side elevation of the reservoir of a gasoline-stove, part broken away to show myinvention, which is applied thereto. Fig. 2 is aperspective view of my invention removed from thereservoir. Fig. 3 is a side view illustrating a modification of the invention. Fig. 4 is a bottom view of that shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 5 is a bottom view of that shown in Fig. 3.
My invention relates to reminders for reservoirs of gasolinestoves, the object or purpose of which is to indicate to or remind the user of the stove that when the cap is removed from the reservoir to fill the latter with oil the burner should be closed or turned off; and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the reservoir of a gasoline-stovesecured to a supply-pipe, B, as usual, and provided with a top plate, a, formed with a screw threaded collar or nozzle, a, surrounding a filling-opening, a, closed by a screw-threaded cap, 0.
Secured directly or indirectly to this cap is a tablet or plate, D, that preferably extends down into the reservoir, as shown in Fig. 1.
.Upon this plate or tablet are printed the words, Close the burner, or like words, indicating the same instruction.
In'order to fill the reservoir with oil, it is necessary to remove the cap 0, and in doing so the plate or tablet D, secured thereto, is raised or drawn from the reservoir, and these words are exposed to view to remind the person filling the reservoir that the burner should first be closed. I
I prefer to secure abell, E, to the bottom of the plate or tablet, which will further attract the attention of the person filling the reservoir to the words on the tablet or plate and remind the user of the fact that the burners should be closed before the reservoir is filled.
This is a simple and effective way of remindstove.
As a modification of my preferred form, instead of securing the plate or tablet directly to the cap G, 1 form an opening or slot, 0, in the-cap O, and pass the plate or tablet down through it, as shown in Figs. 3 and 5, having first secured to the upper end of the plate or tablet a hood, F, that is larger than the cap 0, and covers it when the plate or tablet is down in the reservoir. After the plate is passed through the cap the bell is connected. Thus, in order to remove the cap 0, in this case it is necessary to lift the hood F, with the plate or tablet, to a SLlffiClGHi) extent to give.
access to the cap, and in doing so, the words on the tablet or plate are exposed to remind the person about to fill the reservoir that the burners should be closed before even the cap 0 is removed.
If preferred, the Words on the tablet or plate could be omitted, and then the tablet would merely act as a connection between the bell and cap 0 orhood F, and the bell would act as a reminder to the person about to fill the reservoir that the burner should be closed.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination, with a cap for closing the filling-opening of a vapor-stove reservoir,
'ofa pendent tablet connected thereto, forming a reminder, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a cap for closing the filling-opening of a vaporstove reservoir, of a pendent tablet connected thereto, provided. with a bell forming a reminder, sub stantially as described.
3. The combination, with a cap for closing the filling'opening of a vapor-stove reservoir, of a tablet connected thereto, having a hood by which it is supported and forming a re' minder, substantially as described.
4. The combination, with a cap for closing the filling-opening of a vapor-stove reservoir, of a tablet connected thereto, having a supporting-hood at one end and a bell at the other end and forming a reminder, substantiall y as described.
In presence of- (9.120. H.,KNIGHT, J on. WAHLE.
